1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

Are you applying Navy or Marines?
From the contexts of your other posts I got the feeling it was Marines, but I'm probably wrong.

Now, the waiting game :) If you sent in now you would have to wait a while, I'm guessing, since the selection board meets around the middle of the month and you would probably make the Sept boards... From the advice I've seen on this site I would grab some brews while waiting, and maybe keep studying in case they try to put you on your third choice or something, so you'd be ready to test again if needed. -Just trying to be helpful. No disrespect; I haven't even taken the test so I'd have no room to "talk". I am being sincere.

Good luck in the selection process man.

LOL, yeah, when I corrected you from saying "core" instead of "Corps". I would go either Navy or Marines. Which ever I could get NFO. I can't do pilot because my eyes. But if I don't get NFO even after a retest, I'll probably do something in the Marines because I want to serve regardless. I have not done my app, but I'll finish that tonight and my motivation statement by the end of the week. I have plenty of time to get in for the Sept board if my references dont procrastinate, but I don't think they will. I know it takes a while to find out.

My choices are NFO, Supply, and SWO. I'm a Finance major with a 2.7 GPA. I know its low, but I had to work full time while in school to pay the bills.

Ah :)
I'm in a similar boat. If I don't get my choice in the Navy, I want to be a Marine. I think flying rotary-wing would be very challeging and cool, plus the Marines are in the shit, so to speak, and they are more likely to get to kill the terrorists (at any given moment). Heh. The thought of landing on a carrier is my main motivation to join the Navy. Thinking of landing at night excites the hell out of me.

Ha, if you definitely want to be involved in close air support all the time, Marines is the way to go. When I was deployed to Iraq in 2005 and attached to a Marine unit, AH-1's and F/A-18s were tearing shit up out in the Al Qaim area all the time. They don't play no games. Rotary wing is very cool, my eyes just suck.:( But make sure you main motivation is wanting to serve, not landing on a carrier. But I'm sure it is, the carrier part is just a perk. Good luck to you bro.

Thank you. Absolutely, my motivation is wanting to serve first. You are right about the carrier difference was just a dynamic part of the Navy and a good perk.

I checked out the Army, AF, Marines then lastly the Navy in terms of enlistment recruiters (no officer recruiters in Sarasota). I settled on Navy-1 and Marines-2.

I have such a high level of respect to anyone who serves, Coast Gaurd included. My family has a great military history, so I grew up seeing what great people they were (as well as their friends) and how successful most of them became. My uncles (Army, Marines); my dad (Naval aviator); Grandpa (Army Air Core).
Anyway point being, I have a the greatest respect to those who serve.

There isn't really a carrier difference. Marines land on them as well. Not as much, necessarily, but their air wings get deployed to sea too.

Touche.
But when you say "not as much", that is a bit of an understatement. I also like the idea of (constantly) traveling with the Navy, and visiting the ports of call. I like both sevices respective traditions, so the travel and the carrier landings are the main reasons that I like the Navy the most. If for whatever reason I couldn't get into the Navy, I would bust my butt (even harder) to get in top shape and apply Marines. Honestly I like them both a lot and would be happy/appreciative and loyal to either one.

Took mine today! Kinda glad to get it outta the way - it makes me feel like I'm actually moving towards my goal instead of just thinking about it. Do have to say, I was surprised at the lack of questions about boats and the in depth questions that were asked about flight.
Did you also have problems with the computer? Mine would take ~10 seconds to load a page and the clock would still be running  Thankfully it was only a problem on the mechanical part

Congrats on moving forward towards meaningful goals. It's a great feeling when things start to come together after only being in your head for so long eh?

Care to elaborate?

I've heard of many people with the exact same problem. Makes me wonder what kind of technology they're using that can't load a simple quiz instantly. My recruiter recommended the written test for this reason, and he said you can't go back and check answers.

Grats on getting it over with, 1 more week and i'll be able to say the same! =)

What were your scores? What board are you shooting for? Yeah, the mechanical part always took its time to load!! Yeah, definitely feels good moving towards the goal. I emailed my references to my recruiter/processor today, and filling out my app as we speak!!! Wish everyone the best.

Aviation questions were very in depth. I'm sure it is basic knowledge, but that stuff wasn't in any study guides. Did you have any math in the Supplemental part? I have none, all aviation questions!!

Computer is Windows 2000 OS on an older Dell machine. At least that was what mine was. You can go back to any question, and you can mark them so you remember to go back to them. PM me for details on the ASTB.

My supplemental part was all aviation as well. I had test 3. Anyone know if all of the tests are like this or just number 3?

I want to say that only SNA/NFO/Intel take the part of the ASTB with all the aviation stuff on it.

But I could be wrong.

I had test #4 - and the supplemental part had no math questions, just aviation and maybe some mechanical.

Question though- my recruiter was pretty stoked about my scores (6.6.7.54) but is not returning my phone call or email that asked if he had all the paperwork necessary to schedule the PRT and MEPS... I wanted my package in at the end of august for the sept. 15 boards - any suggestions? Should I change recruiters while I still have two weeks?
