Good to know. Yeah I talked to an Air Force recruiter as well and when he heard me say I had no flight time yet (at the time I had none) and only had a 3.3 GPA, he told me it wasn't even worth trying.

Air Force is different… Not 100% on their requirements but I think you do need a PPL or at least a good amount of hours

Yeah my recruiter said he doesn't get many applicants. Most apparently lose interest in their wait times for OCS, and since they don't swear you in until right before they send you to OCS, apparently a lot of the applicants just don't show. He even said my ASTB scores are probably good enough to get in, but I'm definitely going for a retake just to be safe.
Your recruiter sounds like he is very disengaged from his applicants, I can't remember a single case of a person not showing up to swear in.
Yeah I'm a little split right now. On one hand, I don't have any medical waivers or anything that would be detrimental to my application. I have a little flight experience but no PPL yet. My buddy who flies for the Marines thinks I'll be okay with my scores, but everything I see on this site makes me think otherwise.
USMC is a different animal a 6 and a great PFT will get you in, even before the current situation the USN is digging out of a 6 would be iffy. Study and hope for 8.

The USAF is also a different animal, the pilot spots go to USAFA, then AFROTC, and IF there are any left over OTS will get them, there have been cases of USAF officer recruiters not seeing openings for a year or so.

Waivers don’t factor too much into the selection board. N3M deems you qualified to enter the Navy so it’s not the boards job to deem if the person is healthy. I played football my whole life a little in college have a few waivers from stuff related to that.

Flight time seems to be a determining factor nowadays before it didn’t but I’ve seen a trend with people having lower scores getting picked up due to their flight experience
The board sees nothing medical so medical issues are a non issue, it is the other waivers that can be a sticky point.

Those with flight experience tend to do better on the ASTB, just like STEM majors tend to do better as well, overall it comes down to the predictor of who will make it through flight school.

I had to get two medical waivers, one for ADHD and one for the athsma I had when I was like 5. My RO told me they might request a letter from my college stating that I neither asked for or used accomodations for my ADHD.

Not that I am worried about that, I had to get one just for the DODMERB waiver.

Retook the ASTB for the second time this morning. 61 7/7/7
Not really the improvement I was looking for, as my last scores were the same, but I did manage to raise my OAR from a 59 to a 61. Had a few bumps in the PBM section unfortunately that I think were responsible for the 7's

MATH: I studied ALOT for this section, since I severely underestimated it last time around. I purchased an SAT math prep book to build a basis for my studies, and supplemented that with youtube videos like Ochem tutor. I looked for worksheets online to practice topics I had trouble with before, like probability. It paid off, as I was able to confidently answer the questions presented this time. Saw a lot of geometry, probability, percent problems, matrices, fractions, and lengthy exponent problems.

READING: Lengthy and wordy military themed reading passages. Just tried to look for which answer seemed the most correct.

MECH: Just like last time I took the test, I found this section to be very easy. The materials in Kyle's drive are more than enough to get you through this section.

ANIT: This section was also pretty easy, I got a lot of niche questions, and way more nautical ones than last time. Kyle's drive and the cram cards are enough for this section.

----PBM----
This is where my troubles began. For well over a month I had been practicing with the ASTB prep app for the UAV section, along with the X52 with Jantzens sim. For the last two weeks, I have done 100 UAV questions a day, averaging 1.1 seconds with a 99% success rate(most days I did not miss any). On Jantzens sim, I had been averaging 100 on hard for both stick and throttle, and could get to 90-80 range as well. I really felt more than prepared for the test.

On the initial dichotic listening test, I did not realize the test had started. When the audio que said "test" for some reason I thought it was still testing the audio and I waited until I realized it was already testing me, about a quarter way through. I tried to find my feet and recover after that.

On the UAV section I averaged ~1.5 seconds and missed 2. The audio prompts for direction were very distracting, but I was able to ignore them for the most part. I had hoped to not miss any, especially after messing up the dichotic section.

For the tracking, I was doing fine, staying on green for all sections. Then, during the stick and throttle tracking, my test crashed. We restarted the test and but I had to restart the stick and throttle portion. For some reason, I just did not track as well the second time. Still stayed on path, but not solid green. It seemed like the test crashing brought down my focus. Then, on the dichotic listening+tracking portion, I pressed the wrong button twice for the audio ques. Finally, on the emergency procedures section, I was completely out of it and just did not track for a little while, and got red on one procedure. Idk if it was fatigue or what but that was the nail in the coffin for my sub-8 scores.
----

Needless to say I came out pretty disappointed, but I have decided on retesting for the final time. I felt like I could have done so much better on PBM but just got the perfect storm of issues, both with the test and with myself. One thing I will change for next time is breakfast. Skipped it before the test, but next go around I will definitely make sure I get a good meal prior to testing. The fatigue and failure to realize basic things was probably fueled by my empty stomach.

I would not be disappointed in yourself. 7’s across the board is a solid score! Your OAR is pretty high as well. With things the way they are those scores give you a good shot!

Thanks haha. I am feeling a bit better now, but it was just not the results I wanted to see you know? I did contemplate just reapplying with the increased OAR but it has been such a long time and I can't afford another PROREC-N, especially given that the next board could be as far as May 2024

What board are you applying to?

I was prorec-N in May 2023 for SNA, will be applying for SNA again on the next possible board. Hoping it is earlier than next May though! I took the ASTB for the first time in May 2022, but missed the OCT 2022 board since scheduling MEPS took forever.

Didn’t miss anything on the OCT board that was a very very tough board.

It shouldn’t because when u reapply your package should be improved.
Ok I was asking because I want to apply 12 months out from graduation but it seems the boards don’t like being that far out from graduation. If I apply 6 months out with the same application will they look at that negatively?
