Does anyone have a guide/tips for the new terrain identification? I think I sorta got it as long as I have a compass. Also, does anyone know if the actual ASTB terrian id is similar to the prep app? For example, do they let you use scratch paper similar to the UAV section where you can draw a compass? Is timing scored as well similar to the UAV section? the prep app doesn't have a time score. I think I read in an earlier post that they change the image every time meaning every question has a new terrain. The current update only uses one image. So after about 5 tries its pretty much easy since I know where a lot of the landmarks are already. Are there other resources online that I can use to test myself?

Sorry if this question has been asked 1000 times, but how reliable of a study guide is Barron's study guide specifically for math? I have heard mixed reviews on it (mostly positve). I have been studying math portions from the Barron's study guide and the Trivium study guide and am able to answer most. However, I am just wondering how good these sources really are because I looked at Kyle's drive and the questions on there seem a lot more complicated than what is found in most study guides ive seen. Thank you!
If you want my opinion, the ASTB prep app, Kyles Drive, and Khan Academy were a lot more useful than barrons in terms of math.

I think scoops plans on updating it to use more imagery. He said he would try to release an update this Friday I think.

Someone on here said you have a 30 second time limit to answer each question, I don't know if speed is rewarded. That being said, I would think they would let you use a compass or at the very least draw your own, be pretty wierd for them to allow scratch paper for the whole entire exam and then just swipe it for this one specific section.

I am practicing using Jantzen sim and averaging high 80's to low 100's with perfect audio cues but tried hard mode recently and averaging 150 to 180. The targets are too fast for the joystick. Is the actual ASTB stick and throttle target speed the same as the default one in the sim? I use an actual throttle and stick but it doesn't have the knobs so can't do emergency training. Also is there a guide or video on the emergency training section so I can see it for reference? Also how similar is the actual ASTB throttle and stick section to Jantzen sim?

Yes the actual test is just like the hard mode on Jantzen. If you practice everyday eventually it gets real easy. Practicing on easy to medium gives you a false sense of confidence.

This may be a dumb question but if I take the ASTB is it universal between all branches(navy, marines, coast guard)? Meaning if I take the ASTB for the Navy could it transfer to the Marines? Or will I have to take the test again if I want to apply for marines ocs?

The ASTB is for the Marines, Coast Guard and Navy they are universal so no you wouldn’t have to take it again if you meet the qualifying scores for each branch.

Does the actual ASTB use the X52 Hotas stick and throttle similar to Janzem sim. If not what type of stick and throttle do they use? I just ordered the X52 to practice for the emergency part.

I have never heard of a different stick and throttle being used, I would say you have a 99% chance that its gonna be the X52

Practice on hard mode on Jantzens, aim for 140 or better on both. After training for like a week I went from 180s to 140s, and recently breaking 130 is normal. On the actual test, you won't have a problem with the targets moving too fast for you to keep up with theorettically, thats a sim specific problem. Also, be careful with the dichotic listening, Jantzens is like, absolutely nothing like the real thing.

First of all, on the sim they have the buttons backwards. On the real thing, you are given a target ear and you pull trigger for even numbers and press the clutch button for odd for that ear specifically. You aren't lambasted with it either like in the sim, what they do is announce the target ear and then hit both ears with often very similar sounding things at once roughly once every three seconds.

Oh ok. But I assume just doing the sim will help.

It will help, especially if you just map the controls backwards. Just be sure you don't develop bad habits.

My favorite trick is to just repeat EVERYTHING you hear out of the target ear out loud. This helps you keep track of which ear you should be listening from.
