Took the ASTB the second time just because I had a delay last board due to a transcript and I wanted to improve my scores since I had the time to. Went from 48 6/7/7 to 48 7/8/8. Didn't spend time really studying for the OAR so I wasn't surprised by getting the same score; I really just didn't want to get below the 48 though. I used the ASTB app which made me feel a lot more comfortable with the terrain identification and UAV portion. I have a professional pilot BS degree and am a commercial rated pilot, hope this helps me since my cumulative GPA is 2.9.

If are you applying for SNA/SNFO, your OAR is irrelevant. BZ!

I just took my first attempt at the ASTB and want to improve my score so I am taking it again soon. I want to improve on the joystick portion and plan on purchasing one myself. However, I am running into trouble understanding how to set it up once I purchase and are confused as to which joystick mapping app I should use. I only have access to a MacBook but have only seen joystick mapping for windows. Any recommendations?

I would guess utilizing bootcamp on your mac will be the easiest method, but I've read about the SDL2 gamepad tool which is free and will work with macos. No personal experience with it but that's another thread to pull

If you have the ASTB Prep App for MacOS, no mapping is required. Just plug and play for both models of X52.

I have heard other people are using Joy to Key to practice on the Jatzen sim.

"Joystick Mapper" on the app store for macOS, but I just plug and play with my x52 on the ASTB prep app by @TwoScoops and it works great.

Anyone have an idea of how the tests on the ASTB prep app translate to scores? Ex. 70% on a test = ? on ASTB

Excellent question. At this point, there really isn't a solid way to translate the score from the App to the actual ASTB. There are so many factors involved to calculate this. However, I am working on a predictability solution for you guys, but it probably won't be ready in the time frame you are looking for. Do your best on the app, use other study sources, and see where it goes.
