If you've got a cush job at the moment I wouldn't suggest that at all haha. Straight outta school/no job/crap job is more the audience I'm lookin at.
Fair. It’s gonna be a shock for sure. I mean I move around as a medic, but I have a lot of down time In the ambulance.

Better than 80% of the civilian folks out there (not a high bar though to be fair). Never understood why EMTs/Medics get such s*** pay for really tough, literally life-saving services... you guys deserve more.

It’s simple.
we’re not looked at or valued the same as nurses and doctors which is quite unfortunate. On top of that, reimbursement rates from insurance are atrociously low due to the fact that EMS is governed by DOT and not looked at as a healthcare service.

The bolded is the big "why" for me. Had no idea that you guys are under DOT...

Because in 48 states, a degree is not required to be a paramedic. Simply because it’s under DOT and not DHS.
Plenty of trades out there that do not require degrees and reel in more money. Then again, one way of analyzing it is that pay isn't determined by the market forces the way it works out for plumbers or welders. Totally understand (thanks to you) why you don't get as valued due to educational requirements and not being under DHS.

My gripe is more that given the nature of the work (odd hours, phycological strain) and its importance to society you guys should get better compensation out of principle. Imperfect world though - my hat goes off to you guys.
