How’d you guys come across this website? I’m glad I came across it. I made an account in 2018 to read/comment on the ASTB 1001 questions forum. Little did I know I’d still be using it 3 years later lol
I’ve wondered the same. The videos I watched, most of the candidates have absolute garbage form and they’re still counting them. One vlog I watch, he said something along the lines of “don’t be a dick to your partner when you’re counting push-ups and sit-ups, count every single one unless told otherwise”Curious about how stringent try are at OCS, when I do my pushups, the navy fitness standards say hands should be below the shoulders or slightly wider.
Would I be allowed to just slide my hands outboard more as I get tired? I feel like I could do ten more reps if I switched to a 'wide' pushup after my arms are spent.
How anal are they about hand slipping? Lol
When I was in the fleet they really didn't patrol much. Lots of bad pushups counted....I’ve wondered the same. Exactly! Prepare for the worst! If you can hit 80 perfect form push-ups before getting there, you’ll be set. Even if we’re sleep deprived, hungry and who knows what else, our training prior to getting there will show. When I was in the fleet they really didn't patrol much. Lots of bad pushups counted....
I'm trying to prepare with perfect form regardless, I need to hold myself accountable for a worst case scenario of being eyed the whole time haha but this is a little comforting to know, thanks.
100%Man, this forum has seriously pushed me to become the best that I can be.
Right?! Like I’ve scoured the internet to find everything I can about OCS and the process. This website should attract every single person applying. When I was at meps, there where guys there who didn’t even know what they were applying for... so I can only imagine those who show up to OCS unprepared...Crazy to believe we're gonna meet people at OCS that won't be preparing like us...

They were probably enlisted. They looked young. I was there with one other officer and he was still undecided on what he wanted to apply for but he was at least headed in the right direction. Were they enlisted applicants? Unfortunately you come across many people like that. A lot of 17-18 year old kids that just want to get out, explore etc and they’ll jump on whatever the military will give them. I’ve seen a few at MEPS intentionally telling the physician they have asthma (automatically disqualified) because they’re scared through the whole process. But to imagine an Officer candidate not knowing what they want to do... yikes

The process for going enlisted is a lot different than officer, many times those kids take the ASVAB early that morning, or if they have taken prior there is no guarantee jobs they desire will be there. If a person has a general idea such as being in electronics they could go into one of several rates, and a recruiter will often let the kid know how often something comes up, for instance SEABEES are few and far between, some with HM jobs and if a person is fixed on a specific job they could be what is known as "job locked" and that often doesn't end well.Damn... that’s ballsy. I wouldn’t even consider going to MEPS if I didn’t even know or have an inclination of what I want to do.. feels like a recruiter’s trap to hit a quota IMO.
And all you motivators got me pumped up so I decided to do a mock PRT today. Glad I did though because now I have a baseline to look at. Very thankful for you guys and this community — this f**king rock this PRT!
Run: 13:15
Planks: 2 mins (new record)
Push Ups: 40
Age: 32
Injuries: What exactly haven’t I hurt at this point for my age..
on a side note, Navy Cadence is poop. Thank god we have a Marine DI to do cadences during our run ??
My exact experience. Dead set on seabees, detailer said I could have HM or go home and wait for a phone call that may never come. Ended up as an HM and it was a great opportunity. The process for going enlisted is a lot different than officer, many times those kids take the ASVAB early that morning, or if they have taken prior there is no guarantee jobs they desire will be there. On an officer that is not sure if a person doesn't want to go aviation they may have a few options depending on what their degree is, a person with say a 3.8 in Mechanical Engineering that doesn't want to fly pretty much could apply and be competitive for just about anything.
