Need more content while the wait slowly kills me each day....

What made you want to join?
I'm currently working a regular office job and decided to go on vacation to San Diego about a year ago. Unbeknownst to me, the USS Midway museum was there which I stumbled upon by happenstance. I then spent the next 5 hours drooling over every aircraft and hero story hilighted. Called my recruited the day after I got home. The Jocko Podcast episode with Captain Charlie Plumb solidified everything even more.

i have wanted to join since ever I could remember just been a process on trying to get a medical waiver and finally have!! But wish I have been to midway I hear it’s amazing!!

Can we all agree upon that we will get an answer before valentine's day lol

One can only hope, anyone else refreshing the thread like every 5 seconds waiting on news with someone’s Prorec? ?

Yea I wanted to join since I was a kid. Right out of highschool I scheduled an appointment to talk to a marine recruiter and showed up to a closed office.
Called him and he blew me off so decided to go to college first.

Also did my research and realized the Navy is a much better fit for me. On a side note, anyone consider getting their recruiter something? I saw tradition for first salute is a silver dollar so wasn’t sure if there’s something ppl do for recruiters.

For me I always wanted to serve in the military but ended up just drifting away from the thought of joining. I decided the next step for me was going to college and still didn't really have any drive. I actually ended up withdrawing from college because I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life. I joined a program called Youth With A Mission(YWAM) and did a Discipleship Training School(DTS) where you learn more about God and the passions he has given you in your heart to connect with people through that passion. At the end of my time there I prayed about what the Lord wanted me to do and I felt like he wanted me to go into the military using my passion for aviation. So I went back to Texas Tech and graduated and here I am now haha

Long Story Short: Flying was my dream. It just took me a while to realize that being apart of the military was more important than flying itself... but if i'm going to join, I might was well push for the most fulfilling position for me.

Long Story Long:

Grew up in all the extra-curricular activities: the Scouts, the sports, the Student Body governments - grew up with leadership.
Trained to be the best physically and mentally.
Worked jobs in a variety of industries with a variety of demographics - growing personally and professionally every day.

Graduated College and I transplanted to NYC from WA State. Small Fish in a Big Pond.

Got lost in the Rat Race for 2 years, material comfort. Working a safe, unchallenging, office job.
Currently work in an office with 80% women.

Realized my current objectives were to Make More Money, and Have More Sex.
Realized success in these pursuits were not fulfilling me.

Was surrounded by self serving, materialistic, irresponsible people.

I took Control.

I realized that life would be 100x more fulfilling if I did something with my hands and mind. Something that has strategic impact.
Most important, life would be more fulfilling if I stood ALONG SIDE WITH people who took pride in their country, their work, and their lives.

Toured the USS Intrepid.

My Dad was Helo Evaced out of Saigon by the Navy, back in the day.
Dreamed of flying for the military since grade school, but didn't have the eye sight.
Realized the Lasik policy changed - Make them Tell you no (C.W. Leomnine)

Took an intro flight - "was a natural" (Gaming and Motorcycling Skills had some other application).

Opted for Lasik, Feb 2019.

Reclaimed my life.
Reignited the momentum I've always had.

Quit Smoking.

Began working out again.
Began reading again.
Began growing again, for me.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk

My interest in naval aviation began more recently than most. My brother, who was an avid rock climber was in a climbing accident in the North Cascades in August 2018. He was saved by a Navy SAR team out of Whidbey Island and has been on a long road to recovery since then. His accident prompted me to think about different career paths. After meeting with the helo pilot and SAR team that rescued him, I decided I wanted to pursue a career in naval aviation. My family owes a lot to the Navy SAR team that gave my brother a second chance at life and that is why I considered the Navy above other branches.

In an ideal world, I would end up in helos and pick up a SAR billet after the first sea tour, but I fully understand that it may not work out that way. First step is getting the PRO REC Y and then going from there.

Is FINSEL the same as a Pro-Rec? I received a call from my recruiter saying I was accepted into OCS, but I won't get my FINSEL until by March 3rd. I applied for SNA as my first choice, and NFO as my second choice.
