31OCT22 SNA/SNFO BOARD

Spoke to my recruiter today for a while regarding re-applying to OCS again, apparently the people whom were supposed to go in January are being offered to redes or wait a heck of a lot longer. Hopefully it "rubberbands" and they need pilots towards the end of next year. Has anyone heard much information other than hurry up and wait?
I think if you wanna be a pilot/NFO you gotta be willing to wait to leave. Just something we all need to accept.

I mean I agree but don't go like a peacock announcing what you're doing. They are still an employer and blah blah blah USERRA, do you know how hard it would be to prove they fired you because of your desire to join the military? Keep cards close until you get selected imo, even then you don't have an obligation to tell anyone until 2 weeks before you ship.
I did the exact opposite, and told my boss about the good news within a couple of weeks, still working, still valued. In fact, they appreciated me telling them so they could set up military leave for me even though I'm going active duty. The company has treated me well so I intend to treat them well instead of dropping all this on them 2 weeks out which would've been a lot for a team that has never dealt with this before. All this transparency and being upfront with my boss and the people team has actually had a positive effect and everyone has been super supportive. If you have a good relationship with the people at your company and they understand the career field you're going into, I highly recommend being transparent, otherwise, don't tell people shit.

I work for my state’s DOT, so I was wondering what their policy on military leave was. If I get picked up, I’ll have to ask them about that.

I understand that, I've already been accepted and reported to OCS last month but had to drop the program due to a waiver issue. I've been in the process since 2019, just trying to see insight from others for upcoming boards to come back when I can apply for the waiver at a later date.

I'm in the 08JAN class and if this is correct it's news to me. As of earlier this week I'm still in the same class, however I am expecting that to change

Hopefully enough people are unwilling to wait and either go to other opportunities or redesignate and those of us willing to wait get to leave sooner.

Also, I know this is super late to ask, but I just wanted to make sure. A handful of you folks have been talking about LORs, however, my OR told me that I do not need LORs for my package. Is this right?

I'm not the most knowledgeable about this but I personally haven't heard of anyone submitting a package without LOR's but I could 100% be wrong.

I didn't have LORs, in fact my OR tried dissuading me from getting LORs because they're practically meaningless on an aviation board. I got some really good ones too - from USAF pilots and a former government official - and sent them anyway.

At the very last minute, he told me "By the way, we can't use your LORs because they don't have signatures."
