31OCT22 SNA/SNFO BOARD

I'm going 31 Aug, I've been studying for like a week already. The first time I took it I studied for like a day lol
I feel that. My first take my recruiter was basically like "wanna give it a shot?" and I took it like 3 days later

I'm nervous with my scores because my undergrad GPA was garbage. I went and got the M.S. to try an prove I could actually do things if I tried at the behest of a recruiter. My B.S. was a 2.68 and my M.S. was a 4.0. My recruiter (different than before) said my average GPA only went up to a 2.88.

I feel like this could be a deciding factor in a PROREC-Y or N. I'm just anxious about it.
I've heard super conflicting things that for aviation they don't really care about GPA. ASTB is king.

GPA is looked at. A sub-3.0 will pop red flags to the board. That's when other aspects of your application, like ASTB scores, come in to assist.
Yeah that makes the most sense to me. The whole point of this board process is to predict A. If you can be a naval officer (1st) and B. How probable your success will be in flight school so they mitigate the risk of dumping a bunch of tax dollars into people who might fail out. GPA, ASTB, and background show those things. But people slip through the cracks all the time and people that would've been the Navy's next great O don't get selected. It's the unfortunate reality we all face here.

Like my current GPA probably won't mean shit to the board at the moment since I'm applying through a different program and I'm only a junior. So to make up for that its imperative I get a better ASTB score in september. If selected my only obligation will be to stay above 2.8 which I don't see being a problem.

That and the 4.0 in my M.S. (which I describe in my Letter of Intent and how it was my goal) is what I'm hoping will get me selected. It's like yeah I know I messed up when I was 18, but I'm in my mid 20's now and I actually found a direction and care to put in effort towards it.
And I think thats ultimately the key for you. When you were 20 probably dicking around in college this might not have been a goal. People's goals and desires change. You literally went back for a masters in an aviation field because you realized what you wanted. That should say a lot to them. You got it dude.

Send it bro! You have flight hours, a decent GPA, and a great ASTB. In fact, you have a better application than a lot of us do. Plenty of people with lower GPAs and ASTBs got Pro-Rec'd. As long as you're not a criminal, you're going to be fine.

As the others have said, I think your ASTB speaks for itself. I myself had a poor GPA in college, but I think it was a combination of having a difficult major and not really having a goal in mind, so I kind of just played around too much. From what I can tell, as long as you say in your motivational statement that you have grown and can do better, and do well on the ASTB, your GPA should not drag you down completely. It may be a deciding factor if there are loads of competitive applicants, but with your scores I would say you should be reasonably safe.
