Applying to Jan board 2013

To be honest I don't know what they are doing, given the numbers that have dropped due to various reasons they need this board, unless there is something they are waiting for that is not being disclosed.

So, there is now going to be another board March/Feb? Just curious, since I have SWO as my third choice after the first two for the IDC board.

Wow. I've been keeping up with this page but it has exploded. Good feedback from lots of people. And yes, my recruiter got an email today saying i don't need MEPS yet which truly saved my butt in getting to this board. Otherwise i'd have been waiting for the July board, or this mythical Feb board...

oops I read it wrong, good catch.

The yellow is the March board that was added back in that was originally said was very TBD, it dropped after the last change and seems it was added back, my thoughts are that goals will be solidified by then and if they are on track to meet goal it will be cancelled.

Ah yes I read the page wrong. March indeed. Well hopefully they won't need it cause they will have pro rec'd us all :)

You should have seen me when i got the call from the LT saying I was going to the December board, although I'm glad you couldn't hah

On my application I put down I had 1.6 hrs of flight time in a cessna and robinson r-22. It still counts as flying experience right even though its only 1.6 hrs?
Technically it is, although personally I'm not sure how they view flight time when looking at an application. On the one hand, they might look favorably upon experience, especially when you consider that having a private pilot's license would let you skip IFS. On the other hand, I've also heard that they'd just as soon train you from scratch, so that you won't have to unlearn any bad habits you might have picked up elsewhere. But you're not gonna pick up any bad habits like that in 1.6 hours, so it certainly couldn't hurt to include it on your application.

Yeah Im just glad I put it on my application. Since having flight experience is an exception to the 3.0 GPA or greater.

Oh I hadn't heard about that exception. Sounds like a good rule, especially for people like yourself who are just under 3.0, because if you've graduated there's obviously no way to affect your GPA, short of going back to school for grad school or a second major.
I don't know if they included any quantity for that exception in terms of flight hours or if you have the PPL, but if they come back in December and say that you need more time, and if you've got about $6,000 t0 $8,000 to spare, you might want to think about getting your license in the spring and then reapply for the July board. If possible, I would recommend tailwheel over nosewheel, because while I have no tailwheel time, just about everyone I talk to tells me that tailwheel experience helps you build great stick-and-rudder flying skills. If you're anywhere near Jersey, I hear Andover is pretty good for that, and they have some pretty nice planes there too (http://www.andoverflight.com/)

All that said, I certainly hope that they let your application go to the December board in the first place so you can avoid all that, but if there's one thing I've learned during this whole process, it's that it's better to be prepared for every contingency, forewarned is forearmed, etc etc.

It is an exception, what gets me is the new "rules" were written by an HR person, and flight experience really doesn't help that much in the end, but if it opens the door for some guys then great

*****Due to issues getting PQ letters with the new requirement it has been waived for the December board*****
My recruiter asked if there was a memo regarding this change; if you don't mind my asking, did they send you a memo about this, or is it unofficial?

It was via email, the OR world pretty much revolves around info from NRC being sent out by email, unfortunately many NRD's control the info they give to their recruiters this way.

Understood, I'll let him know. When we last spoke, he said that he was considering submitting my application to the December board anyway, so it's good to know now that I don't have to stress out about MEPS as much as I have been.

PRO REC SNA!
Got the call from my recruiter yesterday. Package is being processed. If they don't find any errors, I'm going to December board!
