I look at my ASTB score and want to buy myself a cake to celebrate, then look at my GPA and hang my head in shame. It seems for everything good I have in my package, there's something that they wont like. It's looking pretty sure that I'll br selected, but I'm not in the best spot.

TolgaK,
I feel you, and I feel ok about my chances, except mine are a little more slim than yours. But mark my words; if we are both selected, I'm buying us EACH that cake you were talking about. I'll have one delivered to your flippin house!

Since they aren't doing the whole "quality" "not quality" piles this time around you at least won't be slammed from the git go.

I'm a pilot for an airline. I can ride anywhere on standby. I definitely wouldn't mind celebrating with people. Meeting people in the same OCS class would be pretty cool too.

Even though I'm not going for SNA/SNFO, the CEC DCO board was also held recently and it is that exact weird feeling that has me jumping at every email/phone alert!

Yeah. Yesterday my mom texted me to ask if I had a flu shot yet or something mom-ish like that *right* as I was thinking "any day now...."

I feel like I'm waiting for a child to be born or something. College and grad school apps didn't feel like this.

That's awesome of you to build that chart! I actually need you to update my GPA. I was not sure how my GPA would change after adding my first few years of school. I started at UC Boulder back in '06 which was a fun time but I absolutely blew in my classes. I didn't know how badly it would affect my GPA from UNM (3.1) until my recruiter got the UC transcript. It actually brought id all the way down to 2.77. It sucks for me, but that's just how it goes, I just have to hope they consider my more recent achievements. Anyway you may want to switch my GPA to 2.77 to reflect my true representative numbers. I'll edit my original post too.
Edit: too late to edit that OP
Yeah same goes for the table, it won't let me edit anymore, but I told someone else I'd try to expand the table to all designators, so if I do get a chance to do that I'll update the GPA as well.

So you have plenty of hours and a number of qualifications, and an amazing ASTB score, but sub-3.0 GPA, I wouldn't freak out too much. Of all the applicants that are sub-3.0 you probably are the single person with the best shot.

College and grad school apps didn't feel like this.

Flying a multi million dollar jet whilst wearing a crisp, white linen military uniform (aka chick magnet) is very far from "begging" to become a slave for a psycho nerd masochist whilst earning minimum wage. :D

Totally not biter or regretting graduate school...plus graduate school apps are more straight forward: my professor worked with this guy so I might get into this school, etc. This type of application is more "closed doors." I know people that got in with 6/6/6 50 and a 3.0

I mean...300 something applications and 3 people working 8 hours a day on them for 2 weeks. They might actually read everyones motivational statement, skim a letter of recommendation, glance at GPA + ASTB, and look over a transcript for a quick minute. I dunno.

Sounds like a really competitve group from the scores. I remember reading scores from previous years and the averages didnt seem this high.

I think we are all sitting here with the same feelings. I have checked my email so much this week and every time my phone rings I jump.

Flying in your whites? Someone has been watching Hot Shots too much :D

I sure as hell hope they don't take the whole two weeks to go through them. I really do think that my LORs and moto statement will help.

I feel the same way, but we are just a small nonrandom sample.

I hope that all of our ORs call us rather than send us an email. I'm jumping at my phone as well. It's quite rare for someone to actually call me during the week, which only makes it worse.

There are definitely a lot of super competitive applicants here. However, I think that people who browse this forum and contribute to the discussions here are highly engaged and very well prepared. Regardless of how one cuts it...top ASTB marks and a GPA above a 3.0 is competitive. It is true that in this economy the Navy can be more selective, but at the same time...lets think about it...a top tier applicant is still a top tier applicant. They know above average regardless of "market conditions."

I think that the next batch of Naval Aviators just might be one heck of amazing group of individuals.

I would like to wish everyone here waiting for their results the best of luck! I am hoping to be in your shoes during the upcoming SNA/NFO/SWO board in March.

Hi Guys! My first post here, i also applied for Dec 3rd board, putting Pilot as first choice, then NFO. Got an email from Naval recruiting today to sign more papers to allow them to complete my background investigation. Is that just something that might have been missed earlier? (although, i think i did sign papers allowing them to access all my information) or maybe something that they inquire of people that were given some kind of preference/green light so to speak? Any advice/info would be much appreciated!

I got a similar call two or three weeks ago. I don't believe it's something they missed, but rather the next step in the process after you submit your package. (At least, that's how it was explained to me by my recruiter and the guy who called me from the NRD)

Hey Artur, welcome to AW!
As far as the papers go with the background check, I know I filled mine out before submitting my application, but as to whether or not they're required before the submission deadline I couldn't say.
If you don't mind my asking, what were your ASTB scores/GPA? I'm actually compiling a table of all the stats for the people applying to the December boards and posting it on this thread.
