Applying to Jan board 2013

Very true, only time will tell. With scores in mind, the majority of astb scores I saw on that board were not as high as people in this thread. Though the top kid absolutely killed it with 9/9/9 70+.

Only three people? Yikes! I mean, it seems like there are a ton of packages in from the AirWarriors community, and I am (potentially falsely) assuming that the AW community represents a minority of all the actual packages submitted...

We probably are a minority. If there are up to 100 pilot slots at this board (IIRC from previous post by NavyOffRec) there are definitely not 100 of us in this thread applying. Having said that, we are probably a bit more proactive than a lot of folks that aren't using this or other message boards (navyocs, sailorbob, etc) which might explain why our average test scores are higher that what Daspyp saw in the office.

Btw, what kinds of scores were you seeing other than that one SOB who blew it out of the park?

Just went through the thread, judging on the people who posted their stats, there are twelve applying for SNA at the December board, including six of us who listed SNA as the only designator. Although some people didn't list which designator they were applying for, so in those cases I assumed SNA only. I was really bored, so I made a table:

Considering GPA and ASTB are the main factors, will my GPA significantly harm me? I hear my flight time helps offset low GPAs but I cannot recall who and how accurate the source of that info was.

I was #2 on the work board with a 7/7/6 61 and a 3.35 GPA, the rest were in the ballpark of 6/6/6 and 5/6/5's scores with sub 50 OARs. 5 of the people on the work board listed their #1 designation as SNA. Other than that there were no indications of GPA or flight time/ratings.
Yay for pseudo-photographic memory!

My GPA is 3.85 if you want to go for completion :)

Underwater basket weaving? I kid, I kid.

It all really depends on what the board decides to do.

Actually I only included SNA applicants for now, because someone in a previous post was asking about pilot slots. I might try to expand it to all designators later tonight if I find some more free time.

Much like Pat_Ryan, I was bored and decided to follow up on this:

Average scores for SNA applicants in this thread (rounded to tenths):
7.1/7.8/7.3/58.6, 3.32 GPA

Ditto for SNFO
6.2/7/6.7/53.2, 3.55 GPA

It would seem that I'm at or below average in all areas but GPA relative to everyone else. Let's hope that isn't the case at the board.

Isn't it weird to know that your package could be sitting in the "yes" or "no" pile right now?

I look at my ASTB score and want to buy myself a cake to celebrate, then look at my GPA and hang my head in shame. It seems for everything good I have in my package, there's something that they wont like. It's looking pretty sure that I'll br selected, but I'm not in the best spot.

Even though I'm not going for SNA/SNFO, the CEC DCO board was also held recently and it is that exact weird feeling that has me jumping at every email/phone alert!

That's awesome of you to build that chart! I actually need you to update my GPA. I was not sure how my GPA would change after adding my first few years of school. I started at UC Boulder back in '06 which was a fun time but I absolutely blew in my classes. I didn't know how badly it would affect my GPA from UNM (3.1) until my recruiter got the UC transcript. It actually brought id all the way down to 2.77. It sucks for me, but that's just how it goes, I just have to hope they consider my more recent achievements. Anyway you may want to switch my GPA to 2.77 to reflect my true representative numbers. I'll edit my original post too.
Edit: too late to edit that OP
