Applying to Jan board 2013

Definitely some good gouge here NavyOffRec. Once the IDC board convenes, what mitigating factors, if any will determine if an applicant is selected for the straight IDC(Intel/IW/IP/METOC) versus being selected for the SWO-IDC Options(IW/IP/ED/METOC). Selections take place during the same boards, but are essentially different programs. Secondly, what is your assessment of the Suppy Corps establishing 3 new boards for this FY? Is the SC having difficulties meeting quotas with "quality" applicants?

Each board is different, some will look at people for designators they didn't apply, but generally you are only considered for designators for which you apply.

They just look at who will be the best fit, with IDC it is just hard to tell what tips the scales one way or another.

Supply has had their goal yo-yo'd but they might be looking at closing out early, typically they get lots of candidates with a low selection rate.

Another question, not very important. How many people are typically on the SNA/SNFO/SWO board, are there actually multiple sub-boards for each community, or something like that?

I've wondered that too. If they did all the reviews in one day, I'd imagine there'd have to be plenty of people. If I were in a small group sifting through packages and reading through all those motivational statements, I'd probably shoot myself in the face by day's end.

I bet all those motivational statements and LORs get really tedious after awhile. I've been in situations where I've had to grade about 100 papers on the the same or same-ish topics. Worse things have happened, but it isn't fun. No wonder they rely so much on GPA and ASTB scores haha!

3 people review all the applications and unlike Supply or Intel none have to be from the Pilot/NFO/SWO community and more often than not they are not from any of the communities.

Only three people? Yikes! I mean, it seems like there are a ton of packages in from the AirWarriors community, and I am (potentially falsely) assuming that the AW community represents a minority of all the actual packages submitted...

I hate to stir the rumor pot but I only remember seeing three SNA/NFO (including myself) applicants on the working board in my OR's office. I'm located in Southern California too where I figured a large majority of the applicants would come from. With that said this is only one office and only what my eyes saw.

I'm located in Denver( NRD Denver) and in my OR's office (she handles almost all the sna, swo,and snfo applications) I saw about 7 names on the work board with myself included. This was just one office and what I saw also.

There is me and one other guy my OR mentioned going for this board from Tucson, pilot IIRC. This does not represent the entire Phoenix NRD, which covers all of Arizona and New Mexico.

I think that without data from all 26 NRDs we aren't doing ourselves any favors by trying to do the math. The number of applicants doesn't really mean much without knowing what jobs they are going for, their test scores, etc.

The work board I saw did show the jobs they were going for along with astb scores. You're right, without the data from all the NRD's it's pretty much a crap shoot to guess our chances. That and as far as we know the board is looking at the whole person concept rather than just scores.

I've been told the first OR I met that ASTB was the most important thing, and NavyOffRec has echoed this along with GPA (for pilot and NFO). Given that there are a lot of applications and some of us have been told things might be a tad expedited I'd imagine that they won't spend a lot of time on the whole person. It would be nice if they did rely more on the whole person!
