Are Naval aviators really away from home more than Air Force pilots?

I played NAS Meridian’s golf course right before they decommissioned it during Covid. Fun course that we played for free. Was a nice way to get out and get angry
We (myself and several SNFO classmates) lost many a ball in the woods on that course while finishing NFO advanced at VT-7 while the fleet of T-2s were down. Sad to hear they DECOM’d it.

Not at Beale AFB. Their 18 hole golf course closed about three years ago. Nature has taken over and you can barely see anything left.

Some USAF bases need major infrastructure renovations, but the AF is broke. The conditions of a lot of Beale's infrastructure needs attention.
Pensacola isn’t much better. Been over there a couple of times in the last year and School’s Command side of the base looks run down.

I was thoroughly impressed with Nellis AFB when I was there for a week. It looked better than any Navy fighter base I’ve been to. Sample size of one versus five, I know, but I was impressed with everything from the facilities to the food court. The staff working there were also extremely pleasant and had free geedunk for everyone at the start of every day. I felt like I was in a fantasy world. First time ever being at an AFB.

I did not do any flying there so I can’t speak to that side of the house.

Nellis is amazing, spent a ton of time there. Probably the best Exchange and Commissary I’ve ever been to.

Having been at both major CNATRA bases during flight school and then parts of North Island and 32nd Street more recently, I've been largely unimpressed with the Navy's level of maintenance/investment in its bases. Every Marine Corps base I've been to has had a wider variety of dining establishments, better gyms, and at least seemingly newer facilities.

Nellis, which I had the pleasure of visiting in the course of my first Class A mishap investigation, of course blew everything else out of the water. Kunsan in South Korea, as well. But of course no surprises there.

NAS Lemoore Ops side, home to nearly twenty flying squadrons, has the following luxurious amenities:

1. A crappy galley for maintainers to walk sometimes nearly a mile to in 115 degree weather

2. A subway in a trailer sporting 14$ footlongs

3. A gym with no free weights

Don’t forget the handful of mini-nex’s (nexi?) filled with overpriced prepackaged processed junk that may or may not be stocked in time, the occasional food truck that has no schedule, and a parking situation worse than downtown San Diego.

We even lost the lone Starbucks truck sometime over a year ago. What a shame.

You could make a serious argument El Centro has nicer facilities

Yea the O’Club/CPO Club is still a good spot. Its popularity goes in waves with how busy people are.

Overall for an alleged “master jet base” I don’t know what’s so masterful about it.

I'm old enough to remember when an Air Boss stood in an auditorium at NASL and told chiefs and officers he was "tired of hearing about QOL, they had no idea how much money 'he' was dumping into their base." Real crowd pleaser.

That would presumably have been a big surprise to CNIC leadership, since CNAF has very little to do with resourcing facilities, services, or infrastructure on base.
