so if i check in 12 June, whats the earliest i can get out of there on temporary duty orders??
Don't know, but why would you want TAD orders to stash at a squadron or something? Seriously, there's not many stash jobs for Marines (in the entire time I was in the pool, I only had to be on funeral detail. Two funerals in 4 months.) and you end up getting a crap-ton of free time (not leave, just free time). ENJOY IT NOW - the Marine Corps will get their pound of flesh from you when you hit the fleet. Live the Pensacola life - beach, bars, Babes. Noticed I capitalized Babes - I was a regular...

Is there an echo in here?

Yeah, Pensacola's a long wait unless you want to go to sunny Enid, OK to fly the intensely overrated (IMHO) T-6. While you're waiting to class up, have fun. Go offshore fishing. Learn how to scuba dive. It's a blast, and it's all paid for by our favorite Uncle.:icon_smil

Um, have you even flown one? Compared to the T-34 the thing is a Porche. May be biased here but it's a great airplane and I miss flying it. I can't imagine why anyone would choose an airplane without an ejection seat. Yeah, yeah all you haters out there, ejection is dangerous, yada yada yada... so is smacking into the ground at 300G's while trying to perform some asinine bail out procedure.

As for the whole controversy about classing up early vs. sitting around, I PRAY for the days of old when I sat around with nothing to do. Once this sh!t starts it DOES NOT LET UP. So be careful what you wish for.

Smilies in effect for this here Airwidiot.

will someone please answer my question? I'll be checking into Pensacola June 15th or so, and I will be trying to get PTAD orders. Does anyone know the earliest i will be able to do this, and will i get PTAD for 30days, 60days, or is it up to me and what my OSO wants?

Aren't you an SNFO or NFO? If so, correct me if I'm wrong but you didn't really fly the T-6, you flew in it......along for the ride. Regardless, flying an ejection seat aircraft gives someone one extra option when the **** hits the fan, so I can understand that.

Two reasons:

1. O2 mask.
2. Hovering.

Harrier guys are 1 for 2.

Have you flown the T-34 for a no sh!t comparison of the two? Unless you're an IP or test pilot I find this highly unlikely. Apologies for the change of topic, I hadn't intended to start a debate. It's just my opinion.

Uh, to be near the beach and with most of your buds going through navy training...

Flying the shiny new T-6 doesn't make a stud the be all/ end all of pilot training. Flying the T-6 hasn't helped the AF, and AF trained Navy studs here in multi-engine land any more then any other primary trainer... always funny to hear them ask how to read the gauges, and how the trim wheels work... seems like they don't get as much exposure to flying instruments either. (NOTE: this post was not intended to dig up the dead horse of which flight training is better...)

Bad NFO, who told you to get up from the kids table?

WTF?

Well, to be specific, we actually do fly it (front seat and all) for the first 6 flights of our program from T/O to LDG. So while that was only 15 or so hours I can say that yes, I did pilot the thing. See, SNFO's/NFO's can make the plane go up and down too!

As for the T-34, I've only flown in that one - once, and actually it was a D-45civilian variant - and while I only got the stick for about 15 minutes it was enough to know that I prefer the T-6 over it anyday.

Look, not trying to start a fight, although it's weird that Senior pilots would attack me as an SNFO/NFO (guess you guys really do think you're better), I'm just saying that I don't understand the animosity towards the T-6 when it is such a great bird. The guys instructing on it always said in VT-4 that it was so much better than they thought it would be.

Now some dudes get claustrophobic and can't deal with the mask (my little bro for instance) and some don't like the rocket up their ass. But as for me, the extra option is better than waiting 5 seconds for the canopy to slide open as you're hurtling towards terra firma. By that point the only thing left is the screamin'.

Sorry to rile this up, but it's just an opinion, I didn't expect my choice of career to be attacked by older, supposedly more professional guys.

You'll get used to it. It's no big deal.

I think NFOs are great (for pilots that need them). Like half of the Hornet drivers who need a gift from the SA fairy.:icon_smil

To answer your question - you can't request PTAD until you've checked into MATSG. However, I would still argue that you don't want to do anything but hang out in PCOLA. The Fleet is gonna get their $1.00 out of you, this is your time to get yours.

Ahh, Bunky just hasn't had the privilege of serving with an NFO in his cockpit. If you go Prowlers, you'll get to take folks with that "unenlightened"attitude and make them stand in the proverbial corner until they learn to play well with others. :D

Don't cry now Francis. I wasn't knocking the NFO side of the house, just clarifying the flying thing. NFO's definitely serve a purpose and are critical to specific missions and platforms. However, I am clarifying that you fly along, regardless of the 1st 6 FAM's or not. You made a comment about why would anyone not want to fly or in your case, fly in, an ejection seat aircraft. If you think about, it was a stupid comment. Some fine folks, like pilots, start out in the same aircraft (T-34C's), select helo, P-3's or god forbid.....E2/C2.....thus never given the chance. It might also be the job. I recently turned down T-45's and T-6's for T-34's. Not becaue I would rather fly 34's over the other two but the ground job associated with the 34's is far superior to what was offered at the wings.

Hey now, I love NFO's!!! I had the privledge of working with them at VAW-120........okay, I hate E-2 NFO's but love all other NFO's :) I tell you, having worked with CVW-2 as a COD OIC twice now, the two CDR's that just got it, actually had ability to formulate an idea, a plan, were both Prowler NFO's.

I love you too, man. ;) BTW, tube rats don't count as real NFOs. :D
