I have 10 traps without an NFO. How many do you have without a pilot?:icon_smil

Are you seriously including clown jet numbers?

Nobody cares what you did on Tattoine, Luke Skywalker...

Are you saying that you have more traps at the controls than I do? I didn't think so.:sleep_125

As long as you're making fun of my passes, go for the gold! I mean, not only were they clown jets, by my passes weren't that great. I honestly thought that "Roger Ball, don't go low" was the usual response from Paddles.

Then again, you should probably get at least 1 pass without a pilot before talking sh!t. :icon_smil

LOL... you Harrier guys are pretty funny for dudes who get cornholed in every DACT you fly against us ;) Maybe you can try a WSO on for size, eh? Certainly wouldn't hurt... :icon_tong

So now I guess you're taking credit for your pilots BFM skills as well as his landings?:icon_tong

As for losing BFM engagements to Hornets, I don't really argue that one. I'd say I'm probably at about a 75% loss rate to Hornets, personally. There are guys out there that are SH at BFM in the Harrier, but even they are probably about even money with a Hornet. You might have noticed that there is no "F" in AV-8B, so you guys should be less proud of the 75% and more ashamed of the 25%. The average Harrier pilot spends 95% of his flying in the A/G master mode, as he should. Were there a lot of air-to-air kills in OIF/OEF that I haven't heard of?

OK. Back to trash talking. I was having a beer with an NFO last night (I bought, since his bonus could barely cover it). Good dude. He was telling me about the NFO to pilot transition that is so popular. I've never heard of a pilot to NFO transition? I wonder why.

As I said before, I'm sure WSOs are very useful for pilots who need them to bring some level of SA to their bottom 10% brains. I mean, somebody has to make the coffee, file the flight plan, and carry the bags, right? :icon_smil

BFM? I realize you guys aren't too up on the BVR concept, but hey, at least I can figure out which group to target ;)

Were there a lot of air-to-air kills in OIF/OEF that I haven't heard of?

Awww... no fun. Let's see, you don't want to talk about air-to-air because it's not your job, but you're more than willing to talk up your clown jet traps even though that's not my job, huh? Cute. Not real strong on the logic, but cute :)

And I'm looking forward to hearing what a great asset the Death Trap was as in the FAC(A) role out in OIF/OEF, then... ;P Or SEAD, that would be cool too...

Harrier pilot vs. super wso...interesting....

In defense of the harrier guys to back the "dude" they don't even get exposure to a radar in the rag...to busy worried about "flying". That is about 50-75% of your job I venture to say...so I hope you can figure it out...

I can target them all I want. It just doesn't do much good without a BVR missle. If I need help from a WSO to do it.......wait. Why would any competent pilot need help from a WSO? Oh yes. To make the coffee.

Yeah, you can read all about the FAC(A) qual for the AV-8B at MAWTS-1. Can't help you with SEAD. Maybe your pilot could do it for you so you could take the credit for that, too. Maybe even a new patch in it for you.

If you (or more accurately, your pilot) ever decide to come out of the air-to-air M/M, maybe you could try a little bombing derby with your local Attack Pilots. Whatever hits he get, you could take credit for! More patches!!

Unless he inevitably has a 200' CEP, then you can blame him for it.

OK. Enough reading for you. Back to the ready room. The coffee is getting stale and you probably need to crank out another Approach article to get fitreps bullets. How about the one where you landed at night single engine......aww, forget it.

Good times....:icon_smil

People, people. Good on T&B for keeping the double anchor faith, but get a couple cruises under your belt before going fangs out at the big boys. ;) You're just grist for their mill at this point. You'll be amazed what a little street cred will do for the poignancy of your arguments.

Well nobody else was taking up the call... come on now... :)

Besides, the way our squadron is looking, I'll at best get one cruise as a JO. There's JOs with us who will leave for their shore tour without a single full deployment.

How f#cked up is that?

What kind of bizarro world is that, everyone else is deploying their @sses off. I'm surprised it is going that way you could always go landbased.

Well, the answer, of course, is that it's very "f#cked up".

Yeah, I've always wondered about NAVY jet drivers/riders who beat their collective chests about not going to sea (?). It's not only about people "deploying their asses off" and maximun efforts ... you can still "deploy your asses off" while shore based, to be sure. And I'm not some kinda Pollyanna-company man who thinks the BOAT is great. It ain't. But the flying is .... and you'll never come close to it anywhere else in any type of aviation.

So why, oh why do people want to be a tactical jet driver/rider in the U.S. NAVY and NOT want to go to sea ... I mean, if you're not going to be on USS BOAT and be "Living the Vida Loca", what's the point ???

Just wondering, that's all. I sometimes think "they" may as well have gone into the USS Air Force ... :)

It happens all the time, but usually the individuals don't apply for it....some even made flag though.

Not piling on ... as most NFO's I know can take care of themselves ... but to flesh out Joe's example I had two B/N's who had taken the Aviator to NFO "transition" --- both were single seat A-4 drivers in a distant, far, far better place.

Semi-sea story:
One was a "satisfactory" B/N ... did the job and tried all the time. A plodder ... dependable, not flashy, just did his job to the best of his ability. The other was a former enlisted airdale and a complete prick as an officer --- but still ended up makin O-6 and being a RAG C.O. An overcompensating, insecure b@stard if I ever saw one --- very competent, however. Just not the kind of guy I would ever invite over for cigars and brandy on the deck. ;)

Lt Prick and I were paired together for a while --- it didn't last long and dissolved by mutual accord . Late one night after we quit flying together --- fate --- that great humorist --- would place us together as the last two survivors @ the CUBI BOQ bar. He never could hold his booze very well and as he was swaying back and forth telling me the "way it is/was" in Naval Aviation --- he offered the observation that: "there's NOTHING that you can do that I can't do BETTER!!!":eek: (now, where DID that come from, anyway .... ??? :))

I looked at him for a few seconds and wryly smiled: "Well, 'Goose' ... I know one thing you can't do better than me --- you can't land on the fvcking boat." (You see --- 'Goose' had lost his Wings @ night Qual on USS BOAT.)

Swaying back and forth .... letting it sink in .... swaying .... sinking in .... swaying some more ..... eyes half-mast .... "Goose" turned and said to the Filipino bartender --- "give him another one of whatever he wants ... " ..... and with that, he left.

We never spoke again .... and for the first time I appreciated him as a B/N. :)
