My advice to helos in general would be like you all are saying.....with an emphasis....perhaps a triple emphasis on LISTENING. I'm sort of being facetious but in reality, it does seem like your standard phraseology is "this is me, let me read you a book report about my position and intentions and step on all other comms before I go back to doing helicopter things" :)

<obviously generalizing, before the rotary wing mafia beheads me, and drags my corpse through the streets of NS Mayport.....
Before?

Good update from the NTSB . . .
Thanks Rob.
"A preliminary report is expected within 30 days from the date of the accident. The preliminary report will contain factual information gathered during the initial phase of the investigation. A probable cause of the crash and any contributing factors will come in the final report, which is expected in 12 to 24 months."

You're not wrong....and the bizarre fascination with saying everything three times before actually conveying the important part of the message.

the feud between NTSB and FAA is clearly evident.
Yes, it is. Recent 121 collapses like Southwest last holidays and such, 121 blames ATC and pilots, the pilots blame 121 management and ATC, ATC blames weather and 121 and on and on. They are all a little bit right, a concrete (runway) shortage, pilot/management relations, ATC staffing, 121 selling seats they don't have, and other issues have a system operating on a knife edge.

Thanks for the article recap @PhrogPhlyer

I'm aware of the NTSB process and outbrief timelines. This is a public message board with folks from all walks of life who can (should be) able to openly discuss any issue they desire. AW is not part of any DoD, FAA, or NTSB mishap board. Nothing discussed here is privileged. confidential, or a violation of any PII statute.

If the website owner, or his mods, feel that this topic, or any topic for that matter, is inappropriate, he/they can delete the post/topic immediately and we will all march on happily.

This website is a great resource for curious aviators from all walks of life. Having a certain level of knowledge and experience base (military or civilian) should not be an excuse to discourage intelligent, respectful discourse.

Cheers,

Rob

It can’t all be about helicopter fishing

I was not aware that I, or any other person, suggested that we non discuss this openly, with all possibilities/probabilities offered for discussion.. Especially in light of the depth of real life aviation experience we have here. I was just reiterating to those who had wondered why we haven't heard more from the investigation itself, that there is a process.

I don't think we've even come close to needing a helicopter traffic cop, yet.

I was a little confused by Rob's post as well. No issues from my perspective on the discussion to this point. We treat this like a Readyroom, so speculation should be avoided and we'll aggressively moderate on that principle.
