Like no shit! Rich, poor, middle class, male, female, whatever. An enemy's bullet doesn't discriminant. You can be critical of the cost in blood our nation's policies. But bringing race into it is a non starter. The military does not "prey" on the poor (regardless of race) any more than Walmart, Dollar General, Jack in the Box, the buy here pay here car lot, or any other minimum wage job or super discount retail operation found in more economically distressed areas. It is a voluntary military. You are not educated or sharp enough to get a career track big time job with a tech firm, or can't stand working in the Amazon fulfillment center, or smiling all day at the Walmart check out, what are you going to do? Enlisting is just one option, and the benefits, to include educational, are a lot better than you will get at the majority of minimum wage jobs. Gotta start somewhere. Again, when one considers all the various incentives, disincentives, individual motivations, personal goals, and human nature writ large, you find race fades to a minor factor.
