I’ve said this previously, but the logistics of going to a CVN who’s ready and waiting for you in an air plan cycle vs waiting for green deck on an LPD and/or arguing with Greencrown on an LHA are different beasts. VRC guys are super capable, I’m sure, but it’s assurdely new ground.
While VRC V-22’s would be able to supply those ships now I would suspect they’ll still be tied up with their primary mission of supplying the CSG/CBG. Even if they added those platforms into the mix those aren’t high hurdles to overcome, it is the general management and mission creep I would be worried about if there were a significant number of transitions outside the community.
I don’t get the angst, however minor it is, about not being able to transition into the community. VRC already has a significant cadre of folks to transition to the new platform and they will likely plus up the number of studs to fill in the extra pilot billets, so while they could likely use a few transitions they likely wouldn’t need a lot. So it is a lot less ‘tailhook pride’ and more just the practicality of transitioning a community from one platform to a new one while maintaining the core mission.
