Your unwillingness to understand basic facts is beginning to concern me and make me question your fitness for naval reserve duties.

Did you also write this baseless article you conspiracy theorist?

LOL no - Brett wrote that one, all credit to him.

Look, I can acknowledge that SARS-COV2 is pretty darn contagious, and I’m glad the daycare and other public places have started wiping surfaces down with sani wipes more often. But I can’t confirm whether or not it’s more contagious than the normal flu virus - which by the way, we have really shitty data on bc people like me will catch the flu, never get “tested” for it, recover in a day or two, and never tell anyone. And of course I get my Navy influenza vaccine ever year and often still catch some sort of something from my kids thru daycare.

Well you should let someone know about your simple plan. Tell Europe too, because they can’t seem to figure it out either.
Hey, good idea to check in with Europe. Let’s see what Germany is thinking about, having learned that an approach similar to ours results in a Groundhog Day never ending shitshow of lockdowns, filled hospitals, and deaths.

There are three elements to their plan, based on the twin objectives of No-COVID and the creation of virus-free green zones. First, a rapid reduction in numbers of infections to zero. Second, avoidance of further virus transmission or reintroduction through rigorous test, trace, and isolate systems, together with local travel restrictions. Third, rapid outbreak management if new cases of COVID-19 occur sporadically.

Experience from several east Asian countries shows that complete elimination causes the least harm to society. Every infection is one too many.

The German team argue that the first realistic assessment of their plan came with the way Melbourne successfully handled its recent outbreak.

Imagine that, learning from successful efforts.

*mandatory N95 or surgical mask wearing. No cloth masks allowed.

So strange how the science is different on different sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Almost as though it isn’t really about science at all.

@taxi1 you’re a scientist, right? Please explain to me how in California it’s safe for people to eat in restaurants but it isn’t safe for them to watch TV while doing so. Is it because that TV could be tuned to Fox News and they might get fed a red pill or something?

This article is a few days old, starting February 1st France is requiring category 1 masks to be worn in public; no more cloth masks. Obviously they didn't consult Dr. Fauci on this one.

So, coronabros, which is it:
  1. Dr. Fauci is wrong about cloth masks being effective, and doubly so about two being more effective than one (which the CDC has yet to endorse)
  2. Dr. Fauci is lying to us again because he's concerned about preserving category 1 masks for health care workers
  3. Dr. Fauci is right and the Europeans (which @taxi1 claims are doing such a bang-up job about everything) are wrong
  4. the science is different because virus particles travel differently on different sides of the Prime Meridian

Seriously though, this is a big moment for y'all. Dr. Fauci is either super right or super wrong. Which side are you going to pick?

Keep Blaming Orange Man. Think they’re ever going to come up with a new strategy?

“Some officials who led Trump’s efforts have objected to what they see as partisan sniping from Biden’s team, warning that it’s hurting morale among career staff who are working on the vaccine rollout.

“The transition is happening less well than I, and my team, had been hoping,” said Moncef Slaoui, chief scientific adviser to Operation Warp Speed, the joint effort between the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Defense to develop and distribute vaccines in record time. Biden’s team dropped the name, in hopes of boosting confidence in the shots, and forced out Slaoui.

“The team doesn’t understand why the Operation is being criticized as it is. It is so unfair and unjustified,” Slaoui said. “If it wasn’t for this Operation, we may not have as many vaccines as we will now.””

Psaki will have to circle back to that.

She says “uh” and “um” more than a student briefing a student-led flight.

Also, sure was interesting to find out her brother is a portfolio manager at Citadel.

SlickAg, by dint of being a naval aviator I assume you are smarter than the average bear. You ought to be smart enough to know that N95 mask > KN94 > surgical mask > multi-layer cloth > single layer cloth > dumbass not wearing any mask. It’s basic Physics 101. Duh.

I assume France has the supply chain to make this requirement. Do we? Did we spend the last year getting the supply chain revved up so we could make this requirement, or did leadership in fact undercut the use of masks through words and example? Kind of like all of your anti-mask posts?

Hmm, so what answer did you pick? I know it’s hard for you to doubt your savior, but with some help we can get you through it.Maybe if Dr. Fauci had been, wait for it, consistent in his messaging from day one, instead of giving a false sense of security about cloth masks, lying to the public about herd immunity, and not focused on fashion photo shoots, then we could have focused on the problem at hand.

I’m going to say this again, very slowly. I understand that you’re a scientist and believe that lab experiments’ results will unequivocally extrapolate to real life situations. Those of us in the real world, however, understand that just because things should work or the theory makes sense, doesn’t automatically translate into wide scale success. Covid is still spreading rampantly throughout certain communities. In spite of mask mandates. So clearly there’s some other factors at play here. Let’s start figuring out those other factors instead of doubling and tripling down on lockdowns, and masks. Here’s my analogy based off your sea story the other day. Confirmation of which engine we’re shutting down is how we work in the sim, the plane, it’s how we brief, it’s how we train. But in the heat of the moment, your buddy didn’t do it. He should have, but it didn’t. Just. Like. Masks. They might work on a micro scale, but obviously not on a macro one. If you want to wear a mask because it makes you feel like you’re contributing to the cause, awesome. If a business wants to require it to come inside, that’s their prerogative. But the curves through the world, other than island nations, are the same, and they’re seasonal.

So, again, I’m confused when you say that I’m anti-mask. Masks work! California has proved it! They required it way back in November and things have been awesome there ever since!

^ This is an absolute travesty. The federal government should adopt a nationwide school vouchering system immediately, requiring all state and local jurisdictions to return all per-student costs of K-12 education to parents who choose to homeschool their kids rather than put up with inadequate zooms/classrooms. But this administration won’t, because of teachers unions.

Mandates are just words. Behavior is what matters.

The virus is transmitted via respiration. That is the transmission path, pretty much period. It is actually not that hard to interrupt that path. Ventilation, distancing, and masks (which are a form of distancing) are key.

If the virus is spreading in a community, it is because people aren’t doing these things. End of story. It really is that simple.

I understand that you’re a scientist and believe that lab experiments’ results will unequivocally extrapolate to real life situations.
Here’s your unequivocal extrapolation. I work in a lab with over 1000 people operating throughout the pandemic, and we are living proof that masks, distancing, and ventilation works. We have had zero cases of transmission at the workplace. None. Spring, Fall, and Winter at Superspreader U. Zero transmission at work.

The policies work, if people follow them. Behavior is what matters. More people will follow them if fewer people like you undermine them.
