Good Morning All,

I'm looking for some candid feedback on my profile, as I know it is quite competitive and want to ensure I'm putting my best foot forward with this application. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

  • Prior Service: No
  • Age: 30
  • Education: Bachelor of Accounting (3.3 GPA), Master of Business Administration (3.6 GPA)
  • Work Experience: Started career in a Leadership Development Program at F20 company and have progressed in Corporate Finance/Accounting for a total of 10 years of relevant experience, leading a team of Analysts for the past few years
  • Rationale: Service to country, specifically Navy, as I have a long family history here. I humbly present my background in hopes that I can serve, lead, and develop the great men and women of the Navy as a commissioned Officer. I believe Supply is most aligned with my background experience and hope to offer whatever expertise I can.
  • LORs: CFO of previous company, former colleague (Director of Finance), and former boss (Vice President of Finance) -- I don't have any active or former military LORs - Will this likely hurt my candidacy?

Thank you

It's not super complicated, explain why Navy, why Naval Officer, why Supply, and what value do you bring to those. Additionally, you want to articulate your understanding of the requirements and what makes you confident you can balance Navy, home, and professional life. That's where you can "put your best foot forward." Your other stats are what they are, just present them clearly. Why do you ask about the LORs? If not having military LORs hurts, will you not apply? Try to get fake LORs from people who don't know you?

Thank you for this feedback.

No, I would reach out to colleagues who are prior military for a LOR if it is seemingly weighted heavier in this application process vs. non-military LOR, as I know a few who are former. I still want to share my current LORs that are from the aforementioned business leaders.

I see some advice online to cold reach out to individuals in the military in order to have military LORs, but that is not something I'm considering as that seems ingenuine.

Plenty of civilians with non prior service get selected for DCO Supply. Your biggest challenge will be ensuring your resume + accomplishments are valid (as a civilian I am sure you are aware how a resume can easily be padded) and you do well on your interviews.

For LORs, they can be from anyone but if you choose employers, ensure they can back your responsibilities and accomplishments (i.e. saw Joe do X things leading to Y accomplishments).
