I have searched the forum and have not found an answer to my question, so here goes.

I am trying to figure out if I have received DLA or not. At TBS I remember applying for DLA and advance for travel pay, and not applying for a pay advance. It seems like I received travel pay and a pay advance, and not DLA. Maybe I did the paperwork wrong in thoes big class admin sessions. As I am led to beleive DLA is different than travel pay, diddy, and advance. I submitted my diddy paperwork to albany GA after the fact, and have not heard back. Can someone set me straight.

I recieved a pay advance 1700 something that they are now taking back 1/12th a month for a year.
I received 1700 something for travel (is this dla plus travel $ ?)
Dont think i got anythig for the diddy move yet (do I?)

DLA is separate from travel pay, and is available to a service member a maximum of TWICE per fiscal year. You can get it in advance, or after your move, and it is processed through admin, NOT personal property.

Are you living in government quarters or out in town? If you moved into the BOQ, then you're not authorized to get DLA, and they'll try to take it back. If you did not file a travel claim upon arrival or filled it out improperly, they'll try to take it back. I'm sure there are any number of other reasons why they'd try to take it back, too.

I suggest you go talk to MATSG admin and talk to them about it in detail. THEY HAVE THE POWER TO LIQUIDATE YOUR DEBT!!!! I've been hooked up due to an S-1 error in the past, so look into it.

First thing. It's called DITY, for Do IT Yourself move...not diddy. Second, nobody here is likely going to be able to set you straight on what happenend with your pay. I wish we could, be we just don't have access to your pay records. Your personnel office should be able to tell you what type of pay you've recieved, going back several months. They should be able to break everything down for you. Also, the money from your DITY move can take awhile to receive.

Thanks for the correction, now i know. Im not asking about my pay, I have listed my pay above, I know what my pay is, If it was in my records I would know about it. What I am asking is to confirm that DLA wouldnt be included in travel pay, and any does it typically take this long. I am not in govt quarters, I draw BAH. I went to Admin a few weeks ago and they basically said the checks in the mail (figuratively)

dla and travel are typically made in one payment
dity is seperate from the two and goes through tmo
if you're paying anything back, you elected for advanced pay.

no way you got $1700 in travel alone for a conus pcs.... so i would have to say, yes, you got dla and travel

I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU JUST POSTED THE EXACT THING I WANTED TO VENT ABOUT!!!

I'M MORE THAN JUST A LITTLE BIT PISSED OFF AT THE ADMIN GUYS AT TBS LAND!! I JUST FOUND OUT THAT I TOO HAVE RECIEVED ADVANCED PAY WITHOUT SIGNING UP FOR IT.

NOW I TOO AM BEING "CHECKED" AND THEY ARE TAKING $190.00 OUT OF MY PAY CHECK EVERY MONTH CUZ SOME LCPL DECIDED TO SIGN ME UP FOR ADVANCE PAY.

IF THEY WOULD HAVE LABELED IT ON MY LES AS "ADVANCE PAY" I WOULD HAVE GIVEN IT BACK AND NEVER TOUCHED THE MONEY. I HOWEVER ONLY RECEIVED A NON-LABELED LUMP SUM OF MONEY FROM KANSAS CITY AROUND THE TIME I SHIPPED TO P'COLA, SO I THOUGHT IT WAS MY TRAVEL MONEY.

I WENT IN AND TALKED TO MARINE OFFICER CONTROL AND THEY WERE LIKE..."YEAH, YOU GOT ADVANCE PAY....YOU ARE SCREWED." I WENT AND TALKED TO THE MATSG 21 ADMIN GUYS AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING.

I AM ROYALY PISSED THE HELL OFF AT THE MARINE CORPS ADMIN. :icon_rage

so go invest it in a savings acct/ira/etc... and make it work for you instead of crying about it

Advance pay is a good deal. Take the interest free money the government has given you (or should I say, forced you to take?) and invest it. Unless you already spent it...well, then, you have learned a very valuable lesson early on in your career.

Last thing...if it was Advance Pay you received, it should be on your LES.

ok, maybe i overreacted a bit. I will definitely be looking into the finances behind a PCS move a lot closer next time. And double check that they don't do it again.

Advance pay essentially amounts to a 1 year, 0% interest loan. Like squeeze and Steve said, take it and even if you don't want to spend it, do something with it. Even putting it into a CD will make you a profit.
If you're that dead set against paying it back over a year, talk to disbursing, they can recoup the whole payment in one fell swoop.
