Advance pay is da bomb, yo. I've never done it, mind you, but I plan to when I leave here. Do they still do it up to 3 mos with a 3 year pay back? With the way house prices are skyrocketing in VaBeach, I'm thinking I'll need all the cash in pocket I can get.

I AM ROYALY PISSED THE HELL OFF AT THE MARINE CORPS ADMIN. :icon_rage

LET ME MAKE SURE I UNDERSTAND. YOU ARE BLAMING A LCPL BECAUSE YOU FAILED? YOU FAILED TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND YOUR PAY AND ALLOWANCES.

IS THAT REALLY THE MARINE CORPS YOU WANT TO BUILD?

WOULD YOU ALSO PROPOSE: THE FEW, THE NOT TOO PROUD, THE MARINES?

No he and I did not fail, we did not apply for it. Im not complaining but its not our fault. We understood and made a decision. We opted not to take an advance, pure and simple.

Would you like to build a Marine Corps where people are not responsible for their actions?

If you went into a store and looked around and decided you didnt want to buy something and then found out the store descided to charge you for something you didnt buy, and its in the mail? You would blame yourself for this and not complain? If so let me have your account info, I have some things to sell you.

Yeah I failed in one thing...FILLING OUT THE REQUEST DOCUMENTS.

ok ok ok....i know. I'm a big baby.....wahh wahh.

It's all MY fault that I recieved an advance that i NEVER requested.

And being that the advance was NOT LABELED IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM on my les or bank statement made it impossible to know what that money was for.

Keep a few things in mind...

1. It was my first PCS move in my career.

2. I was expecting advance lump sums of money for travel and dla

3. There was no way of knowing what electronic deposit into my account was for what. It's not like they told us an exact dollar amount to expect for travel.

4. I know a 0% interest rate loan is a great deal...and actually now that steve and squeeze helped me see the light i'm over it. JUST DON'T FVCK WITH MY MONEY WITHOUT ASKING ME FIRST!!! Or at least giving me some kind of heads up. I like to brace myself before getting kicked in the nuts.

I moved from Pensacola to Whiting and was told by a friend that he got quite a bit of DLA and per diem when he moved here. They gave me about 380 bucks in two seperate deposits. I'm not sure what all that entails, but when I asked the Petty Officer about dla and per diem, he says that I was not authorized because I didn't leave the geographic area. Did any of you get DLA or per diem when you got to Whiting, and if so, how much? If I am entitled and they say I'm not, how do I go about getting it? I hear this is a common problem where students checking into primary are told they don't rate certain benefits until they put up a fight and get the problem fixed.
By the way, I was living off base and got the non availability stamp, but my roommate signed the lease to the apt, so if I need proof I lived there I think I'm screwed.

Technically, you are not entitled DLA moving from PNS to Whiting. If someone got it, good for them, but it's not legal. However, you are entitled to get a military move (or at least you used to be) if you moved your family from out in town into Whiting Pines.

The PO you talked to is correct, if you're not leaving the geographic area, you're not entitled to DLA, independent of whether you're a student or not.

If your friend got DLA when he went from PNS to Whiting, it's most likely money that was due to him from his move from his last PDS to Whiting. Since API is temp duty, they normally won't liquidate travel until you check into your permanent duty station. This is especially true of married people who get their orders to API and Primary together.

I thought you could get DLA if each move occured in a different fiscal year.

Good luck with that. I tried to pay my Advance Pay back. I went to PSD, wrote a check, received a receipt. Next LES/paycheck they paid it all back to me! Then they started taking it out of my paycheck again.

Oh, I see what you mean. I did that , and it did not affect my borrowing potential. Come to think of it though, I think I submitted my mortgage app before I PCS'ed so the payback was not on my LES yet. NFCU was cool enough to factor in my impending BAH increase and 6yr flt pay increase.

Only if its:

a) a PCS move, which moving from NPA to NSE/NDZ is not, and

b) it's out of area.
