My friend IBB has clearly never seen I-10 through West Texas...:D
I've done it once. "West" Texas is still bigger than any state you'll come across. And then even when you're out of Texas, it's not exactly like you're in the middle of civilization. Yea, I-10 through "West" Texas sucks balls. You better either have XM/Sirius, a shitload of mp3's, or a good looking blond in the passenger seat.

Just make sure that blond doesn't distract you on the road.

Yeah, thanks, Cavt, for making my last and/or next safety stand-down 20 minutes longer so they can tell my your travel technique uses poor headwork.

That was back in my pre-military days, I'm too old and lazy to sleep two hours in 48 these days...although it was an interesting experience nonetheless...

Combating TIP training AGAIN?!
If it takes you more than 24 hours to get here your a weakling!

My record, east coast (New England) to California (Via I-80) 50 hours. That was back in my younger days...

I'm sorry, but that is just stupid...;)

Lovin' life....
I dunno about 40, it would be cooler temperature-wise than deep south Texas, but the freeway through Oklahoma absolutely sucks. If you really wanna go on 40 I'd recommend getting off of 40 at Amarillo and then angling southeast on Hwy283. I can't remember the actual number of the road, but it takes you from Amarillo to Dallas. Plus, you'd completely miss Oklahoma and their devil-roads.

You would be adding several hours too (don't know the actual number). Either way, it is a fun drive, especially through the desert in a Jeep with nothing but time to kill. :)

This is exactly the route I took coming from Atlanta! It is a decently interesting route across the US instead of staring at dead animals and people trying to cross the border for 3000 miles...... IN A STRAIGHT LINE!!.....I think it is 283 that cuts up to amarillo...

:D

made it!

Finally made it across the country from San Diego to Pensacola. All I can say about the drive is: Texas is really, really big.

Can someone tell me what street I need to get to the correct gate to check-in on Saturday? I took Blue Angels Pkwy all the way down and went through that gate, but I'm thinking that wasn't where I wanted to be.

Thanks much.

Take Navy Blvd. into the front gate, you'll go across the bridge, stay to the right. Fastest way. Good luck!

Is the Italian restaurant still on the east side of Navy Blvd just prior to the bridge ????

I lived in a pretty little white duplex on the other side of the street abutting the Bayou (509-B or something Navy Blvd???) in the old days about 400 yards down the street --- easy walk --- good Italian chow.

I ate there w/ my mother the weekend after my commissioning in '98.
