Is it optional for men not to have their head shaved? If the answer is no, then it shouldn't be optional for women to have their hair cut short. If it were up to me, all recruits and officer trainees would get their hair shaved, men and women alike. But I tend to favor gender equality. That's just me of course.Just thought I would pass this along since I just came across it. "In addition to feedback on Fleet policies and Sailor resources, Sailors had suggestions about the hair policies for new recruits. Beginning January 2015, Naval Service Training Command (NSTC) will initiate a pilot program to cease mandatory female haircuts at Recruit Training Command (RTC) and Officer Training Command (OTC). The pilot was established after receiving feedback that junior Sailors and officers are not taught proper grooming standards during their initial training. Grooming standards education will be incorporated into the curriculum, but will not impact other training. This will allow women to style longer hair in the same manner that they would wear it daily in the Fleet while providing the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the standards before transferring to the Fleet. If desired, women will still have the opportunity to cut their hair upon arrival and during training at RTC and OTC."

So can male recruits get spared the half dozen nicks on their heads so they can 'learn proper grooming standards in initial training.'Is it optional for men not to have their head shaved? Well, it's clearly the Navy's fault that Sailor wasn't taught the five standard responses...So can male recruits get spared the half dozen nicks on their heads so they can 'learn proper grooming standards in initial training.'
I wonder how long it'll take a male Sailor to catch onto this one...
"Why is your hair out of regs?"
"Well, sir, you see I was never taught the regs in boot camp. It's entirely the Navy's fault that in 19 years I never learned this life skill called brushing your hair and getting a haircut."

You're an engineer that graduated from UF for crying out loud. Surely you can watch a few YouTube videos and learn how to do it. Go Gators! While, yes, it might be "unfair" to make the guys get haircuts while the girls don't have to, I know, personally, it WILL be a great help learning how to put my long hair in a clean bun that stays up throughout the day quickly every morning. It's not as easy as it looks...
What are you talking about? It was generally made to teach people how to actually groom themselves in the fleet. If you have nonsense to say why even open up the gouge. ..
