It's true. I am trying to be optimistic, but I've already started planning my classes for next semester and thinking of way I can improve my package. I just want to find out either way!

You are exactly right! That's what we should all be doing. I tried the optimistic thing but found the "expect the worst, hope for the best" method works better for me. I am enrolled in 3 classes this semester and depending on the results will enroll in at least 2 more (which will finish my A.S.) starting Jan. Between work and all the studying for my classes it takes my mind of the painful wait for the results. I start my leave today at 1700 so the next week and a half will go pretty fast for me. Maybe by the time I get back those damn results will be up.

Enjoy work everybody! HA!!! :icon_wink

now, now... it's almost time. anyone in the Norfolk area that wants something to do tonight should come watch a soccer game at Fleet Rec park at 1830. We're going to win :D oh, and since it's off-base, beers are allowed! :D

You can't have beer on base? Yet another reason to not go SWO.

I've already talked to one of the local community colleges about classes starting soon after results are expected out. All i have to do is go in and finalize everything. My biggest concern at this point is the personal statement- can anyone think a good way to broach the subject of being a second year applicant? Just throw in a line like "i have previously submitted a package, but was not selected. since then i have done much to make this year's package more competitive"??

"Since my selection as a FY 2008 Core Alternate I have strived to make more meaningful contributions to the betterment of the Navy."

IF this isn't your year, build your package up for next year. Start working on getting some letters of recomendation. A shipmate who was picked up a couple years ago had a letter of rec from his congressman.

I took Statistics and Physics this year. Looking back on it I should have taken Calc I & 2 and another Physics class. Someone else mentioned it on here before. If anyone reapplys next year, TAKE THOSE CLASSES!

This is my last year applying, good luck to everyone

great info. After reading that i believe i have ahown leadership potential, but not academic potential. Im not complaining but its not the easiest thing to do while being on sea-duty is obtaining college credits. Ones that count i guess.

If you are on sea duty I would suggest online college classes, if you are in Hampton Roads area Tidewater Community College is really good for military, I've earned 30 some college credits from them on sea duty.

Also study up on CLEP exams. Go to ESO and get a list of exams that they offer and download the study guide, study for a few weeks, and take the exam. Alot of them are worth 6 semester hours of Gen Ed.

Thanks guys. I have my Associates, but according to Debrief that might not be enough. I will just keep truckin along, as we all will.
I have another thought. Everywhere it states that the CO's rec is the most important part of the package. I would think that everybodys reccomendation from their skipper would be great if not outstanding. So how can that hold so much weight?

I also hope that since i only applied for the core option that all of you guys get picked up for your specific option. I guess that helps only appying for Core is that all the top guys get selected for their program and you compete against the rest. (which are around 400-500) This all makes for interesting remarks and even debates.
