FY09 STA-21 Soup to selection and beyond MEGA thread

NNPTC only mailed out 27 total applications this year. that leaves 13 spaces unnaccounted for not including the Prototypes (Nuc is getting 40 slots this year) I would imagine that the selection rate for Nuc will be pretty high this year.

Why 27 total applicants from A school and Power school? This year CCC and the CO decided to only send off the packages they felt stood a legitimate shot at selection, as opposed to other years where weaker packages were still sent out even if the CO was less than confident in the applicant.

Just a thought...

NNPTC does their own "weeding out" that is never correct. I was an SLPO there last year and in my CO's interview he went on and on about how there was no possible way I would be selected and that I had not ever done anything good while in the Navy. I guess making Chief in under seven years isn't good. But, I was selected. Another SLPO applied for pilot thru OCS and the CO said the same thing to him. That guy got picked up as well. If you are applying you should not ever let anyone tell you that you should pull your package because it is weak. The CCC and officer programs coordinator guy at NNPTC don't really know as much about STA-21 as they want you to think. I taught them a few things, and they were things that were right in the instruction. I will stop ranting now. I get furious every time I think about that command. I am just glad I am no longer a nuke.

I'm sorry, we can not release any info until the selection NAVADMIN hits
the street, sometime mid-October. You can check with us after the
NAVADMIN has been released.

Hmmm wonder why they were so forthcoming last year and not this year.

I want to know exactly what they mean by "mid-October". Last year it meant October 4th, and before that October 27th. I am so anxious!

I do wonder what they are hiding...

ET1 is .... well, i hate him with a furious passion. I did my entire package myself except for my CO's interview which I had to go through him for to get it scheduled.

All i was referencing was the report that was put out that indicated who's packages got sent out... only 27 names were on the list.

I'm secretly hoping I didn't get nuke, but got core so i can cross-commission into the Corps.

FY-09 STA-21 Pilot Select!!
That is so true. I let my CMC talk me out of doing this when I was young 19 yr old Airman. Truth is that is the best time to apply. Your young! The Navy wants you when your young, if you meet the requirements. Everything you do after being academically and physically qualified is just extra. The last two years I've waited for results and there's always young E-2's and E-3's getting snatched up for this program. Not many even apply and I assume it's for the same reason, that their supervisors steer them away.....don't fall for it if your a bright new Sailor. Apply and apply....and apply again.

Its the mentality that you "need" to be a Chief before you can be a leader. My first CMC let me know that at my CDB when I was an E1. I see multiple E2/E3's have been selected the last couple years. If you qualify, apply. If theres someone in your shop thats interested, support them.

I want to echo all of the people telling young guys to apply. I was talking to a new LTJG in my squadron about my package and he said he was glad to see that I applied as an airman (I wasnt even eligible to test for e-4 yet), becuase he said that an ENS is an airman. If you havent done STA-21 and you went to college out of highschool then you have no experience in the military and you are about 23 years old. so for those young airman like myself the only difference between you and the ens you work with, is he had a way to pay for college. In no way he is more qualified to lead then you could be. Seaman-to-Admiral for a reason. As long as you meet the requirements and your command thinks you have what it takes apply every chance you get.

I'm giving up on finding out this week. Hopefully it will be sometime next week, so we have the long weekend to (hopefully) celebrate..or hide in solitude preparing next year's personal statement.
