FY09 STA-21 Soup to selection and beyond MEGA thread

I bet it is. Last year only two were selected and they were told that they were the "test group" for how many people are to be picked up for the option in the future. They said the Navy told them more people would be selected if those two did well. But only the board knows. Maybe by Friday you guys will know the results. Good luck to all.

SWO/IP's

How many SWO/IP applicants do you guys think there are this year? And how many do you think will get selected? (someone may have posed these questions already). I just found this site/forum the other day and after reading about 30 pages of valuable information (including the conspiracy theories) I figured I'd add to the calamity. :icon_tong

hopefully we have a radio guy on here, I know last year one guy posted he had the list the night before the Navadmin was on the web. Also I wonder if the STA-21 guys will give statistics if someone emails them. Having read last years thread I saw alot of ppl emailed them and they gave statistics to those option requested.

Yeah I saw where last year someone emailed down to P-Cola and got the numbers of how many were selected for each option. Has anyone done it this year?

FY-09 STA-21 Pilot Select!!
General....

Wow!!! Alot of knowledgable applicants on here. This is my 3rd year applying and I've recieved all kinds of info, but never knew about this site. I was not selected my first time, selected as an alternate my second time(last year) and like everyone else, pulling my hair out waiting this year. Just for everyones info.... I found out Oct 3rd last year from my NC1 the results were out, they we're not online anywhere I know of until OCT 8th. A friend of mine was picked up in 2005 and he didn't know until OCT 27th. It sucks, but just be patient. Also that power point on here is great, I've never seen it, but wish I would have. I've learned a few things over the last three years that may help some of you out. First, more is not always better(like the slideshow says), college credits don't have a great effect unless the grades are good. The material on the ACT/SAT is what they compare them too. If you do well on those tests it will benefit you more. You have a better chance with no credits and a high SAT/ACT score than with an associates degree and low ACT/SAT scores. It's all about academic potential. 2nd, I know three first classes that had associate degrees and never got picked up for STA-21, they finished there BS's and got taken to OCS right away. It costs the navy more money and time to put you through a 3 year program when your already halfway done. If they determine you can finish your BS in under 36 months this is better for them and you. 3rd, if you feel any area of your package is weak, you better have addressed it, i.e. my H.S. grades were not great but I explained why. They need to know this info. Also if you get selected as an alternate, email and find out what # alternate you are in your program. I could go on and on. Good luck to everyone, 3 yrs later I know how important this is to all of you. Any ?'s please ask. I know the application process in and out!

This is really good insight ... thank you. I guess the best thing about not making is that the shell of your package for next year is pretty much completed and all you'll have left to do is improve upon it. However, it would still be nice to be one and done.

Has got to be the Nursing Core ... I just hope that Med Corps isn't the 2%!!!!

NNPTC only mailed out 27 total applications this year. that leaves 13 spaces unnaccounted for not including the Prototypes (Nuc is getting 40 slots this year) I would imagine that the selection rate for Nuc will be pretty high this year.

Why 27 total applicants from A school and Power school? This year CCC and the CO decided to only send off the packages they felt stood a legitimate shot at selection, as opposed to other years where weaker packages were still sent out even if the CO was less than confident in the applicant.

Just a thought...

I emailed the STA-21 guys asking for the Pilot statistics. We'll see what I get in the morning.

thanks for doing that, and please keep us posted!

that slideshow was very helpful, hopefully this is a sign the results will be out sooner rather then later.

any radiomen on here that may have access to the results or NAVADMIN early?

Still Waiting....

Yeah Guys/Gals,
I am underway heading back from cruise and am on watch in CIC right now, just went down to radio and talked to the IT's they have not seen anything as of yet. I also talked to my NC1 and he brought up his super access for BOL and nothing there @ 8pm(2000 for you military).

I am the only one on my ship to be waiting for these results, and I am getting very anxious. I am on here and BOL, BUPERS and STA-21 web sites like every hour to see if anything has changed or posted.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!WE ALL DESERVE IT!
