I got accepted to SUNY maritime, and I am from New York. Are you going there for sure? I am not sure yet, it will depend on acceptance/denial from other schools. I tour the school back in December and liked the location and atmosphere. Have you been there?

I'm from NY too just not that part, im from Albany. It's looking like SUNY is the best deal for what credits I have for my AA. no one else will take as many credits as SUNY said they would. Right now im gonna drive to UNF and see what they have to offer. but its def. lookin like NY

i didnt know jon g had an navy.mil addy...hows kate? i know, i know...not the first time you've heard it. but does it ever get old?? haha...i work with a guy named william turner...good ol' Boot Strap Bill.

I dont get it as bad as this dude with the last name SMALLWOOD, but whenever i walk into the exchange and i have ot show my ID, the Navy wives are like "OMG YOU ARE JON GOSSELIN!!!!" it only gets old from them because they keep me there and they have to tell all of their co-workers.

Ladies and Gents,

Been reading some of the forums here and everyone seems to be real informative. Anyways, looking for some help in taking my SATs. I never took them in high school because I knew I was getting in the military. It's been almost 4 years since I've been out of school and needless to say, I have not been using a whole lot of math. Does anyone have a good book book for basic college level math (allgebra/geometry/calc)? I'm not sure that an SAT study book would be enough for me, but let me know if I'm wrong. thanks all

I went to Barnes and Noble and bought those ACT/SAT prep books and took both tests, it took me 2 times for each exam for me to get a comfortable score. i def. recommend the ACT i did awesome on the ACT and on the SAT i missed the bare minimum on the english half by the skin on my teeth.

Sooooo I am just going to throw this out there... Does any NFO Selectee plan on dropping out, getting a DUI, or being medically disqaulified? If not please reply with your name and address... Juuuuust kidding, but seriously, does anyone not plan on going? Congrats to all selectees and alternates!

Alright so I havent been able to get on in a while so if I repeat a question already answered I apologize. So far I have gotten my acceptance letter and my degree plan. Right now I am actually in between commands. I talked to the detailer and he said that I still had to transfer to my new commmand and then they will cut me orders from there. However, I am trying to get my physical but am not too sure as to where to go. I am reporting to NRD Pittsburgh but am going to NRS Syracuse. I would like to get this physical done before I report which is the 23rd of November. Does anyone have any idea as to where to go or should I just wait until I check in? Any help or guidance would be useful. Also the HIV results I am assuming will get taken care of when I get my physical. Does anyone know? Thanks guys/girls and again congrats to all selected and for those who did not I apologize but keep up the good work and try again next year.

Ok first off, i dont know your situation but according to the instruction, if you received your orders on or after July 1st 2009, you were not to transfer. your CO should have sent off a message to your receiving command saying you are awaiting results and if you were selected, would then send a message of order cancellation. if you were selected did you notify Ed Straten of your address change? Also, your commissioning physical could take longer than you think depending on where you have it done. i did mine in Kings Bay and i had to make appts to make appts. so make sure you look into that. I'm not quite sure what the deadline is to have all of your info mailed in by. im currently waiting on my degree plan and thats it. so depending on your situation idk what to tell you. the only thing i can say is go on the STA-21 website, print of the medical forms supplied on there, and go to some military medical clinic if possible and get it done ASAP.

Yeah they werent supposed to transfer me but they did. It was do to all the transfers being held up due to lack of funds with the fiscal year and it was ridiculous. Well they still transferred me and they said it was fine just a pain in my ass if I got selected which I did. So oh well but I guess Ill just have to show up at some MTF and be desperate. An old friend of mine who just got selected for OCS said to call 1-888-NAVY-MED and they should be able to help. It just suck because its Sunday and they arent open. Oh well. Also is there anyway to check Netfocus without using a CAC card because since I am in between commands I dont have access but knowing which NSI class I am to attend would be helpful.

Does anyone actually know when our acceptance letters are due? I called Ed about my SNA, which is due december 1st, and I sent a copy in my application and he said that was all good...... but I havent seen any due dates on acceptance letters.

This is for the current OC's:

Does anyone know what the odds are on getting your first pick of college.... especially if I already live in that city? Would there be any reason not to keep me there if that college accepts me? I live in OKC, and on Tinker AFB, to top that. Norman (OU) is only 15 minutes south of here.... thats why I ask- it'd be silly to move me to Iowa/Texas just for school.

Any current OC's going to OU?

I talked to mike and he said if your NSI date is in may, which is at the bottom of your STA-21 application status log in page, you need to have all the school paper work to him by february. But the physical is definitely ASAP.

any University of Illinois or ERAU applicants?

Ditto about taking the ACT over the SAT, as long as your college of choice accepts ACT scores. Not all do.

My husband got his GED and didn't take a Math class for almost 10 years. He got the ACT prep book, used online Math sites and borrowed a college algebra book from a friend. After studying a bit and doing a lot of ACT practice tests, he ended up getting a 25 on the math, which we were really excited about.

It's all about familiarizing yourself with the general material and learning the "test tricks". Good luck!

Not sure what other base does this, but NAS Oceana has a SAT,ACT/ASVAB prep course you can attend, its like a week or two TAD at the Navy College learning Center. Its a great program, Computer based and some very knowledgeable proctors to help you out. Might be worth checking into to boost those scores.

I'd say getting your first choice is pretty good. I go to ODU and I have friends that go to SDSU (the two biggest NROTC units in the country) and nobody I know of got turned down. I've never seen anything at ROTC that would limit the number of people the school accepts. I don't have any legitimate sources, but I would say that an acceptance letter = orders.

response to applying at ERAU

I applied to ERAU and only ERAU. That is where I started my college education back in 2002 and is where I want to finish. They can also get me out the door quickly. The only downside is the expense of going to a private university. Looks like it will be just about $16,000 a semester!!!

They accepted every single credit I had on my SMART transcript and every college credit I have earned since attending main campus before my Navy days.

Anyways, I was selected for PILOT this year and am currently on a ship doign pre-deployment work-ups. I really cant wait to get off to start getting everything ready. I have already mailed in all my documents to the STA-21 office.

Don't worry about the high cost of tuition at Riddle. I'm an OC at Riddle, and I can assure you that all of your tuition worries will be washed away once you speak to the VA representative on campus ;)

UNF doesn't accept crap! As a prior nuke, my SMART transcript was 3-4 pages long. They took I think 15 credits as electives. However, the scenery at UNF is amazing... 3-1 girl to guy ratio!

I saw in an earlier post that someone had talked to Mike and all of your paperwork needs to be in by February if you're going to NSI in May. My report date for NSI is February 21st. Does anyone know when I'd need to have all of my paperwork in by? Thank you.

It usually is in mid-December with orders being written thereafter. Shortly you'll receive an acceptance letter from the STA-21 office with direction on when everything is due.
