FY10 STA-21 Applicants gather round!

It usually is in mid-December with orders being written thereafter. Shortly you'll receive an acceptance letter from the STA-21 office with direction on when everything is due.

Thanks for replying so quickly! Another quick question - does the STA-21 office accept acceptance letters and degree plans by fax or is it mail-in only? I'm just worried the schools I'm applying to won't feel any sense of urgency and will take their time sending me these documents. I appreciate your help.

The most efficient way is scan your documents .pdf and email.

Thank you again and my last question - in regards to the physicals, the message says that they must be completed "AT A MILITARY TREATMENT FACILITY (MTF)." I'm guessing the doctors on my ship (CVN) can't do this and I'd need to go to a Naval hospital?

I dont have access to Netfocus because I dont have a CAC card reader. Is there anyway someone can check what NSI class I am scheduled to go to?

Don't worry about the high cost of tuition at Riddle. I'm an OC at Riddle, and I can assure you that all of your tuition worries will be washed away once you speak to the VA representative on campus ;)

Thanks for the info! Any other info you think I might need before I get to Riddle? Does the ROTC unit have a spot for me?

UNF doesn't accept crap! As a prior nuke, my SMART transcript was 3-4 pages long. They took I think 15 credits as electives. However, the scenery at UNF is amazing... 3-1 girl to guy ratio!

You were the guy who came to Kings Bay with the MECEP group that had the presentation at the auditorium were you? cause i was the only guy wearing blue in that place.

nope MR1.. that was the other EM1 Nuke at JU ROTC. However, he is/was a submariner; I was on a flat top. I remember him talking about that trip though.

Trying to make sure I am doing all these medical examination's right.
I went to the STA-21 Website and it says that aviators are required to submit OPNAV 3710.37A, SF 93, and an EKG printout. I also heard people saying you need your HIV done. My command seems to be clueless on this process, is there anything that tells me exactly what I need to do for medical other than the STA-21 website?

This is the Aeromedical waiver guide Physical Exam link. You can google it and get the whole thing, but this should tell you what you need to know, pay particular attn to the Applicant checklist in section 1.22. Make sure when you are reading it, you are reading the parts that apply to applicants and not the already designated standards, applicant standards are more stringent. Let me know if you have any questions once you read through it. Your aviation medicine department will get you through the physical.

NSI planning?

Just found out hubby is going to Feb. NSI. I want to fly up there with the kiddos for graduation, and the fares are obviously way low right now. Does anyone know what the class dates are? Do the servicemembers drive up there themselves? Thanks!

Nevermind: Just got the dates. :icon_tong I want to fly one-way and then drive to visit family on the way home. Tickets are only $85 right now!

My wife is also going to Feb NSI. When is the grad date? Who did you get the plane ticket through?

Excellent that you are thinking ahead. I would recommend you reserve your hotel room now (Navy lodge is 1/4 mile from the barracks). Although not too much of a problem in April, the second NSI class had people scrambling for hotels in Newport.....in summer.....when rates double or triple compared to the off-season. If history is any indicator, your spouse "should" be able to spend the last night or two with you before graduation. It will be up to the LT. My group graduated Friday and I picked up my wife from the airport Thursday and brought her to Newport that afternoon. We stayed in the Navy Lodge the night before graduation. Someone who went last year would be able to give you a better idea about the time-line for the last week of NSI. NSI was shortened by one week since my class year was there.

Good luck and congo-rats!

That's almost the same we did last year (May NSI group anyways). My wife flew in Wednesday evening and we also stayed at the Navy Lodge. Thursday we had a graduation practice and finished cleaning our rooms and packing. So have your bags packed and room clean prior to her arrival, then have your wife come Wednesday and have most of Thursday to visit and show her around.

It's no guarantee but if you let them know you have plans they will more than likely work with you to make it possible. For our class, our chief didn't even show up the last couple weeks. He took some leave during our class and hardly showed his face after we got our shit squared away. Not saying any of this is how your class will be but probably something close.

Congrats to all who made it, btw!!

P.S. Don't sit in your car and get drunk in the parking lot right outside the barracks. Not a good idea!

P.S.S. Nutter Butter cookies are considered dessert.

Correct. That's what the gazebo on the point out behind the barracks is for.

Good luck you guys, I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Can someone please help me here.....
I have been selected as an alternate and am running full speed with college applications and my medical appointments. I should have started my application process earlier but I was told not to by my COC, either way it is getting done now.

BUT here is my real problem... I am now looking at the minimum requirements for the courses of study at SDSU and they are all above 2.0... which shouldn't be a problem normally but my community college grades, straight out of high school, are horrible (.983 @ 16 credit hrs). I did take 2 Central Texas classes and made an A and a B (3.5 GPA) which helps but if I’m right I’m still only at 1.44. I am applying for SDSU and UCSD but I’m almost sure I will have some serious issues.... what do I do next? I'm thinking I really need to take 3 classes before next year to pull up the GPA.... I don't know if I’m doing my math right but it looks like I need 3 A's to pull it up past a 2.0! Are there colleges in San Diego that will help me out... maybe ignore the grades from 2001? Something?

I knew that my past grades would follow me but NOT prevent me from attending college! I feel like a dirt bag for not realizing this earlier.

Please ANY help would be much appreciated.
