I am basically a one man Admin Office for my whole command. I set up the whole STA-21 process, my command had never had a STA-21 Applicant before. I set up the boards, I drafted the CO's recommendation, I put the whole package together myself and mailed it myself. I know that isn't supposed to happen but like I said I am the Admin for my command, I am also the only blue shirt, so there wasn't really anyone else to take care of it for me.

Seems like everyone had some problems with getting their stuff completely done, I love my command (slight sarcasm) because of how big it is and how impossible it is to get everyone in one place long enough to finish a board. i had to setup my own external board on june 29, right after i did my co's interview.
Looking at last years selection list there were no Smith's selected so hoping there's a few this year.

Well it's nice to kind of see some of the "competition". Not many people apply for the med corps since it is pretty much a life commitment. I have my AA degree. My LOR's are pretty conventional. I have one from the Base skipper, Flight surgeon, Physics teacher and a Divo.

Yeah its going to take a while lol but I am ok with that, I want to get out of Florida so bad so if he makes it we are going to move back to his home state of Texas for him to go to school. Med Corp was his first pick but he also put down CORE. He is deployed right now but he told me that if he gets selected for Core then he may not accept it. He really wants to be a doctor and going Core will set him back pretty far.

Here's a question for the group:
- Who here has actually seen there package? I.E C.O's endorsement and appraisel sheets?
- Did anyone have to write a rough draft if there own C.O's recommendation letter?

Just wondering because one I've seen it done both ways....

I have all LDOs/CWO's at my command-- they know LDO application not STA-21-- so I did almost everything myslef. I wrote a rough draft of my CO's endorsement but he changed the entire thing and made me sound like a million bucks. My CO scrubbed through the package after it was completed and he founda lot of little mistakes. I made a copy and mailed it out myself. When I was on a ship though I didn't see anything so it depends on the command.

I had to put my whole package together, including wrinting the CO's endorsement. My command wanted me to put it all together to show my drive and how bad I wanted to be an officer. They only scheduled my boards, and didnt even tell me about them until they had already started. Walked into both of the boards late becasue my command forgot to tell me when they were. Luckily, the officers were understanding and gave me outstandings all the way through

I wish they had given me that much freedom. After I completed my package - including CO's endorsement - I handed it to them and I was at their mercy. I was constantly having to drive them to do the things I needed from them. I had my external board set up for May, but I didn't get my internal board until Mid-June. Everything I needed done that I didn't have control over I had to push and push until they gave in and finally completed the task at hand. It was somewhat rewarding.

It is quite satisfying to finally be done with it and know that you did most of the work. I had two CDR's that sat the boards the last two or three years and kind of helped coach me through what I needed to say on my personal statement and endorsement, but outside of that there wasn't a whole lot of help.

How did everyone get O-6 and above for their external and internal boards??? I had a hard enough time getting commanders to sit a board.

I work for NCIS so my CO is the Commander of the NCIS Office of Military Support in DC; he is a Marine O-6. Because of geographical difficulties I wasn't able to actually go to DC for the internal board so we got authorization to conduct the board via VTC.
Since my Detachment is located at NAS Sigonella, Italy I was able to piggy back the NAS Sigonella internal board and use it as my external board. The NAS Sigonella CO is also an O-6. That is how I was able to pull it off.

What options you go for?
