Boldly lick where no one has licked before
So how did all this happen??? How did it EVER come about in this great country??? Where is the responsibility??

I'm sorry to say, sir, but it is all your fault :D

At least, it is your contemporaries, the Baby Boom generation that changed the rules. Many of this generation channeled their undisciplined, live as you will, socially active ways...

...into softer kinder gentler forms of discipline (such as time out).

Enough of these kids don't learn respect for people and property, and they act out for attention. Unfortunately, well placed corporal punishment, which stayed my hand from doing something I shouldn't, is quickly become less of an option. These kids who bring weapons to school at all ages need a little calibration...

Personally, I think we are failing some of our children, as a society, by not properly teaching them the meaning of respect and discipline.

How do you stop this juvenile cancer of violence that IS the decay in our society today???

One option:

I also blame the part of our society that decided that it was OK for the little sluts who get knocked up as teens to be single mothers without the shame and stigmatization of generations past. As soon as we started putting day care centers in high schools, we gave our collective permission to these idiots, who now think that it's OK and even cool to be single teen mothers. The resulting generation of children raised without fathers to instill character and discipline are now the very people who run rampant in our schools.

Brett, you had me at "little sluts."

Let's run for school board together. Seriously. My wife shakes her head, but I'm a firm believer in the power of a little bit of public embarrassment. Nothing malicious...just enough to shame.

The problem is that the schools are telling us all that we are supposed have tolerance of everything and anything. Its not that we are malisciously trying to embarrass these kids, the embarrassment should come from the fact that not only are their actions having a negative impact on their own lives, they are bringing a child into the world who is at a disadvantage from the beginning. The problem could continue from generation to generation ... "hey, mom did it, why can't i?" It also ads to the "victimhood" section of our society who wait for the hand outs from the government that they are "entitled" to.

I would second the vote for the two of you to the school board where I live!

Dad could be a convicted bank robber - doesn't mean I have to let them think it's ok. Again, a little public disdain may very well be enough to let them see that society in fact does not agree that it's acceptable. Evidently it's perfectly acceptable to espouse the view as an educator that "the war is wrong," but Lord forbid I express that those who want to work the system for the most entitlement, etc. in exchange for the least amount of personal initiative is shameful. We used to call those people bums and deadbeats.

Anyway, back to my original post - it's precisely why Brett and I need to be on the school board. We can fix it one district at a time. Sometimes people need to hear what they don't want to hear while others need someone to say what they're afraid of saying (for fear of being confrontational). :)

We have teachers who can't teach in the first place. How bad of a job could he do?
