If this hurricane season turns out like last year's ... is it going to affect training in a big way ?? Or the # of STUDs the Fleet will need in say ... 6-12 months from now ??? Any guesses ... ???

Current projections hold it as being worse than last year. I have no inside knowledge of how it will affect the fleet, but I know the hurricane delay last year, combined with the hail damage of the helos made the -60 community sweat a bit.

Wow, CAT-IV! Stand by for carnage! I had to do the OCS HURIVAC deal too although I can't remember what the storm's name was. Generally - bad times and sleeping on hard surfaces followed by base clean-up Ad Nauseum. Stay safe, friends!

Well if I select helos it looks like I might get a break in between primary and advanced.

I'm guilty of being just as selfish as the next guy sometimes, but dude, come on with that statement. You obviously don't live here in Milton or P-Cola yet. My house isn't going to be here when I return in 5? 7? 20? days...I couldn't care less about when I get to start advanced. I want my stuff. And I want my house. No hurt feelings, but starting advanced is THE teeniest concern right now.

I got lucky last year and moved 4 days ahead of Ivan (my old apartment--GONE), this time not so much. If you're here, LEAVE. Please. I'm out tomorrow. See you all in...?....a month? Whenever we get power back up and a place to live.

Stay safe guys, I'm Hurr-Evac / Cross Country tomorrow.
Good luck, Fly-guy, and it goes without saying - fly safe -- all of you in this evolving situation. What always amazed me with every succeeding HurriVac I participated in --- we would get the aircraft out to safety --- I had to fly out several times over the years as a STUD and as an Aviator --- but we would leave the wives and kids to fend for themselves in the path of the approaching storm(s).

No wonder she divorced me ..... I'm still waiting for somebody to put that one in a proper context for me .... ????

Good luck everyone, and stay safe! I'm glad my husband doesn't have to fly anything out (yet) - this is my first evacuation - but my thoughts are with anyone who has to go it alone.

Here's hoping we all have homes when we get back... should I be worried that my apartment complex has done ZERO by way hurricane preparations? :)

No no, I wasn't trying to be selfish at all. I was in Pcola for Ivan last year and had to evac. I know what its like and wish everyone the best there.

Nah, I lived in Fairfield Lakes last year when Ivan rolled thru, and they didn't do any preperation beforehand. They even told us not to tape up windows. The only damage any buildings got was some torn off siding, and a very few missing shingles. Just take your important stuff with you and pray for the best.

This is still early in the season - and we already have a cat 4 storm! Ivan didn't hit last year until September. Not looking good for the rest of the season...

Atlantic Satellite

This is a pretty good reminder to everyone to keep up with insurance, and an inventory of everything you have just incase something like this happens wherever you are (though Pensacola seems to be trendy right now for storms).

Good luck, all...

Hurricane Dennis (already stronger than Ivan was at this current location) will, either directly or indirectly, affect hundreds of thousands of people. In the path of Dennis: homes will be destroyed, more people will become homeless, lives will be lost. There are still thousands of blue roofs here....the Gulf Coast's wounds are still healing from Ivan.

During Ivan, a family could not afford to vacate the area and the shelters were already turning some away. That family lost their 8-year old daughter.

I'm glad this natural disaster will be convenient for you. Who cares if you were here for Ivan or not.
