This happened to someone I know last year during Ivan. He wound up incurring a lot of expenses during an enroute delay and was NOT reimbursed for them (just like the rest of us Marines who were evac'd). Poor bastard wound up sleeping in the bed of his truck until someone found out about it and took him in.

What about those of us who have PCS orders OUT during the Hurricane? This sh!t sucks. I was planning on taking my time packing my stuff up, picking up my truck Sunday, load it up, get the house inspected, leave on Tuesday and have a leisurely trip to VA Beach.

Now this f#cking hurricane comes around and I've spent the last few days running around like a goddamned chicken with my head cut off trying to get everything taken care of today... and get the hell out of Dodge tommorrow. There's half the squadron garbage-baggin the computers and packing up all the files... the other half looking for high charts and approach plates... and LTJG me poking them on the shoulder asking them give me the mandatory ORM lecture for my move...

Tuesday July 8th was dear hubbby's first day of advanced helo training and although we know now he will be delayed, there are no words to express our concern that our home will be standing when we get back (yes we left at 12 noon today to get out) We left for Ivan and it was still devastating to go home and see all the destruction. I am a Floridian and NOTHING ever prepares you for this. I just pray we don't get it (not that I want anyone to) but so many people haven't recovered from Ivan and many never will. My hearts go out to them all. I pray those of you in Pcola/Milton/Pace are safe.

Don't cry ..... we both survived .... I got older and became a rich man/poor man (thanks to my ex --- a.k.a. the Dark Side .... ) .... and the Shelby got older and became worth about 60X what I paid for her .....

I'll attempt to take up a little of the slack as Fly is gone on a Hurri-Vac ... the center of Dennis the Menace is now almost directly over Havana --- hope it pulls Fidel's beard off .....

It has dropped to a CAT III (still very dangerous) while over land in Cuba -- tomorrow will tell the story for Key West and Pensacola. Key West NAF is not currently reporting (closed and gone to ground ???) but the Key West civilian airport METAR follows:

You know, just what in the hell is up with Pensacola, hurricanes, and lil' ol' me?? Last year while enroute to P'cola from Quantico, I hit the leftovers from the one before Ivan. Then, I get hurrivac'd for Ivan. And now, that I'm slated to select next week (FINALLY) and probably head back there, another damn hurricane's on its way to the panhandle. WTF??? Is it me?
