July 2013 and/or Rolling Board

I think it depends, if I got an offer from the FBI, or contract with the NBA I would have to think twice. Luckily, this is the only thing I'm applying for.

Is the end of July yet?
I know it’s a little premature, but have any you guys started a swimming regiment yet? I know there’s a one mile swim in a flight suit when we get to API so I have been contemplating on busting out some major laps in the pool before I go to OCS (grated we get picked up). Has anyone thought this far ahead yet or am I just sweating it for no reason because the swim should be a walk in the park by the time we get to API?
Thoughts??

I swim 1 mile (64 laps) Monday Wednesday Friday and I run 4 miles Tuesday Thursday and Friday on top of doing P90X. I also increase my swim and run by 1/2 a mile each week while getting in 150 push-ups and 300 abdominal excersices in too.

In general your ASTB could be a bit higher.

Comments for all: This person is an example where active officer interviews do carry quite a bit of weight, his Dept. Director is an officer, and while the director may or may not have direct knowledge of his work, it will appear to the board that he does.

Age, MEPS PQ, and Security Clearance - Check.
ASTB - Slightly above average.
GPA - Excellent given tough major, outstanding University.
NAVAIR experience & LORs a big plus.
LORs - Outstanding assuming these LOR authors know you well?
NJROTC Squad Leader another big plus.

No package is a guaranteed "shoo-in", but yours is about as well rounded as it gets. I don't believe the ASTB scores will detract at all from the quality of your package, you're ready to roll. Best of luck!:)
* Caveat, IMHO

I also mentioned this on the Intel boards post because my preferences would be listed as Intel/NFO/SWO. I'd be applying now for the next upcoming boards.

I have B.A.s in Philosophy and Political Science and a minor in French with a 3.66 undergraduate GPA. I also have a law degree, but no I don't want to go JAG. I just turned 26 in May. No prior service or military relations.
My ATSB was 6/5/6 with a 57 OAR.
I've got a lot of community involvement and leadership on my resume (President of a couple major things in law school, Editor of a student newspaper there). Employment record is solid with great reviews, etc.
I guess I need to look into letters. I thought I was going to give my reference forms to employers and a professor, but apparently everyone gets them from officers? I don't know any personally, so is that what interviews are for? Sorry, this is like a dumb question.

This forum has definitely helped me gather information, but I would definitely appreciate any help making sure I'm putting forward my most competitive chance. Thanks a lot for all of your great contributions and everything I've read so far.

If I hadn't looked up that University I wouldn't have known what it really was, I keep hearing ads for "Drexel University Online", so I initially thought it was a "University of Phoenix" type school.

If you are prior service, then you would be seeking out officers and the such for interviews. Since you are not, stick to the employers and professors. Their references look a lot better than ones from some random officer or congressman who doesn't know you and can't speak for your work ethic and character.

Yes, Drexel University (Philadelphia, PA), is ranked #83 in the "Best Colleges in the U. S." this year. No 'fly by night' diploma mill, has been around since 1891. Although 'tis a mite expensive $$$-wise for tuition.:)

Agreed. But aren't University rankings based on research funding/grants? Just curious because although I attended Washington State University (amazing veterinary school, wheat field location lol) the university is still held to the same educational standard at Cal Berkley, Standford, UCLA and USC (all PAC 12 schools) which receive outstanding amounts of research grants.

Depends on which ranking and if you are talking about the school overall or specifically engineering, when it comes to ranking engineering US News and World reports does it this way, they send out a survey to the Dean of the engineering school as well as a few select tenured professors, those faculty then review and rank schools based on what they think, all the surveys are collected and info combined. When it comes to overall school rankings they look at most items relating to admission and I believe graduation info. I am more familiar with engineering rankings as US News and World Reports is what NRC and NR uses for looking at engineering degrees.

NavySquid, I found out about a week and a half ago. You should be able to call your recruiter and find out.
