Picked up for SNA!

Mechanical Engineering (Rising Senior)
GPA 2.75
ASTB 8/9/8 65
LORs from 1 USAF Lt. Col. (RET) and 1 USAF Lt Col. (RET) / NASA Astronaut (RET)

Still need to go to MEPS. Would appreciate ANY information on what exactly goes on there... I'm not quite sure beyond the fact that it's a close physical. Advice?

More importantly, Congratulations to all selected!

To the non-selects, It took me three years of dealing with Philly NRD, and 3 different recruiters to get to this point. Never give up! ASTB scores were on the second try, Don't be afraid to challenge yourself! Study hard! It will pay off!

At MEPS make sure you are withing height/weight/body fat standards, drink lots of water so you can pee, and prepare to get your butt hole looked at :p

It's easy don't sweat it, and Congratz! See you in the DANGER ZONE!!!

Also, My name is Casey too. Quit copying my life, bro! Thanks for the heads up!

Found out at 1400 PST that I got picked up for NFO. NRD San Diego. OR said that 220 or so applicants were pro-rec for NFO. All of my OR's applicants were selected for Pilot/NFO. I'm getting an official letter on Sept. 20 and would be leaving around Oct/Nov for OCS.

GPA = 3.45 (if I remember correctly)
5/5/6/50
4 LORs: 2 pastors, 1 Honda parts manager, and 1 from previous job

Congrats to all who made it and I wish the best of luck to non-selects and future applicants.

I'll bet it was that Honda parts manager LOR that really sealed the deal for yah.

Yikes some are still waiting to hear on NFO and Pilot? ouchy...

Yea my processor said that NRD Dallas has not given or posted anything yet and he was checking every half hour. I am supposed to hear yay or nay I hope otherwise I can only assume no news is bad news.

That's what my OR told me.

Well he is a pastor as well! I actually think I listed him as a pastor because one of the others got lost in the mail but ended up finding it's way to my recruiter. I was just worried because many applicants had prestigious LORs from college professors and military service members.

I think the board cares less about how popular you are with the Senators and Admirals and more about the evaluations of you by people that actually have worked with you on a daily basis and the board can tell that that particular person has given you an honest evaluation. That is not to say that a 4 star might not work with an applicant on a day to day basis and write up a good LOR but generally IMHO (I have absolutely no credentials) those 'prestigious' people have a saved document for LORs and they just input your name. The same is true for most college professors, save the ones that like us and have had dealings with us over the years. ALCON: I'm not trying to bring anyone down, only describe my opinion of LORs, don't decapitate me for saying that your LOR is different, I imagine that it is case by case.

Your profile just about matches mine. Except I don't know how you managed the contrast between ASTBs and GPA in Mechanical Engineering. My GPA at graduation was 3.45. Oh and you got an Astronaut's LOR, that's pretty sweet.

This may be a tad redundant with this site, but is there an FB page for NFO / NA selects? I think it would be fun to have a more casual spot to get to know your classmates and brothers-in-arms on a different, more social level (not to be taken wrongly). If not, would anyone support such an idea?

Well there's no FB page, but a bunch of guys who were here a long time went and started their own website.

I am active duty and I just spoke with the fleet applicant OCS help desk and he told me the SWO results were released this morning and to check my bupers online...hopefully you guys will start getting calls today
