So I take it you decided not to pursue the SNA selection anymore?

my recruiter basically said it was a lost cause... he would keep fighting and pursue the waiver but he said he was pretty confident they would tell him to go f*** himself.

i figured it was better to just get in and on my way to becoming a naval officer. if i have what it takes to be sna down the road then so be it and ill pursue it then like some studs have done around aw. right now ill focus on being the best i can be.

i've looked into nfo a lot the past week and they do a ton. you have to be an officer, you are in charge of the missions and the responsibility is huge on you before during and after the mission. i like that. maybe that will translate into a faster track up the ranks than sna but who knows... you prolly need to be sna to become a wing commander or air boss anyway. where do nfo's go?

i get to learn how to fly too which is pretty sweet... nfo gets me in the cockpit! and if i ever wanna get outta the navy i'll be able to fly civilian stuff cause i went through ifs and at least learned how to fly and ill be navy trained.

biggest thing for me though was that i was accepted into the United States Navy and have a chance at becoming an officer. pretty sweet gig and a childhood dream come true. that trumps all. sna or not. i woulda gone swo too if thats all they accepted me for

I just got a call from my OR saying that everything is going through great and they are putting all the final papers together. I should get my final select in 1 to 3 weeks!

Another cool thing is I asked my OR about friends and family being around for swearing in, and he said he is very flexible, and wherever I want to have it take place is fine with him. I'm thinking my parent's house with inviting a few friends and the family would be nice. Is anyone else doing anything similar?

my OR said the swear in isnt that formal and not much of a big deal... graduation from ocs is where its at. he said i definitely could bring people but i'm gonna wait till ocs graduation. my parents live in denver too... pops checked flights just to see and they were pretty expensive so it made the choice easy

I say keep it informal, there's a lot that can happen between swearing in and graduating OCS.

I plan on swearing in, signing my papers, maybe having a picture taken, then just going back home and taking my wife to a nice dinner to celebrate.

Swearing in is definately low key. It's more of a personal celebration on the inside that you made it through the application process than a group thing. My OR swore me in in between a couple phone calls, not really to exciting. Go home afterwards and give yourself a high five.

You've got the right attitude about where you're at. Start your journey with that attitude and keep it through whatever the Navy ends up throwing at you. As many of us can attest...things don't always go according to our dreams once the Navy has their say...sometimes they do, and I hope they do for you! But, I can tell you that I was CRUSHED after intermediate when I got E-2's and watched a bunch of folks I did much better than and worked much harder than waltz over to VT-86 for jets. Quality spread can be a killer, and even if you are the top of your class, sometimes that just means that the Navy will definitely put you where it wants you, not always where you want! I thought my world was over. Well, it wasn't over...it just changed. Two fleet tours and 1000 hrs later do I still miss a canopy when I fly? Yup. Do I still enjoy my job? Yup :) It's all about attitude, and a willingness to do your best, regardless of where you end up.

Enjoy OCS man...it will seem like hell at times, but you'll look back and have very fond memories of it, even if it's not in P'cola anymore.

Good luck!

Oh, and don't worry about advancement as an NFO...my first squadron skipper (E-2 NFO) is now a CAG, and my first CVN Captain was an E-2C NFO...now Admiral Wren. And the pointy nosed FO's have had even better luck getting to those spots...don't worry about that stuff. Worry about poopie week :)

Final Select SNA (Sept 13th)
Has anyone else had problems with their signature pages? My OR put mine in the system several times and said they are always pending... no acknowledgment yet.

Bonko- congrats man... when did you submit your stuff and send your security stuff in?

I actually sent in everything April 4th, but got pushed back onto May's boards.

My family expressed that they wanted to be at my swearing in. I talked to my recruiter and he is going to do it on July 4th. It is funny how each point feels so exciting yet the road is so so long.

Pro Rec SWO
I went through MEPS yesterday. There was some kind of issue with my paperwork so I had to wait 6 hours before taking the physical. The only thing I failed was the depth perception test but I'm going SWO so apparently it is not a big deal. Now I'm waiting for the national board to review/finalize the results, not sure how that step works.

Your recruiter will get a letter or notification that you are a "Physically Qualified" and if you are not you will know what is necessary to get qualified (ie waiver, or consultation).

Final Select SNA
Seeing some of you guys swearing in already is making me even more anxious for my final select letter. I just hope I'm not one of the unlucky ones that has to wait months...
