I understand what you wrote and I honestly don’t doubt you, but clearly you can see what I was hitting at.
But let’s just be honest. The complaints here have ZERO to do with DC street damage or cost to the military. We know what tracks and weights need to be used on a tank so that it doesn’t damage the streets -
we’ve done it before. If defense costs were an issue I’m sure you’d support eliminating such ostentatious programs like the Blue Angles, Thunderbirds, USMC silent drill team and other things like parachute demonstration teams - and military flyovers at sporting events - right? Equally, if this is really a logistical issue for Defense then I support firing every admiral, general, and O-6 who clearly must have allowed our military to deteriorate to a point we can’t move a few thousand people and a handful of vehicles a few hundred miles.
I do agree (as noted in the article I link) that big parades are usually for big victories - but I’d count the creation of the nation as one of those moments. Does every Army birthday parade require a national show of power? No, no it does not. This one, however, is a planned event like the eventual tricentennial (that I really, really doubt I’ll live to see).
