A fun movie that really embraces the spirit of the golden age of aviation is The Rocketeer from 1991. It is one of my all-time favorite childhood movies (though it is not a children's movie per se). Also the special effects I think are very good, probably better than what you'd get today without a super high budget because it was before CGI so they had to do everything with props. Another, more recent one, this time pretty much done solely with blue screens and CGI, is Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

Three things-
Number one is this AppleTV documentary series on the Vietnam War. It's damn good. We're losing these guys to age now. Their stories are important. I think of guys like our own busybee, and rockdriver.

On a lighter note-
While these stories didn't take place on night one of SNL, apparently they took place during the first season. The docudrama cast nails the original season SNL cast.

And then, because it's SNLs 50th, there is a documentary about SNL. There is an entire episode on the cowbell skit. It's well worth it.

Edit- had to get to the laptop to actually get these links correct. Stupid phone.

Couple of movies this weekend: first with the kids was 2015’s “Pixels” starring Adam Sandler and Peter Dinklege - good fun.

and later was 2001’s “Heist” with the late Gene Hackman and Danny Devito. Quite good.

Watched “The Electric State” on Netflix last night with my wife and kiddos. It was very enjoyable, and a good commentary on how technology has taken over our lives.

Re-watched Heat a few weekends ago with the boys. Oh man what a star cast that was. I feel like Hollywood or social media would melt down if such a thing happened in contemporary times. First scene I remember (when I watched it during the theatrical release) was like the scene in Squid games when everyone realizes red light green light is a no shitter. And that Northridge shootout precursor scene was just bananas. Just the sound effects of real guns in close quarters/shooting out of the front window of the getaway car......you don't get that these days, and it was novel back then too. Only better firefight audio in a movie I've heard was Restrepo, which I'm sure our Marines will take issue with

Damnit im rambling again about some 1990s movie

I'd add Tombstone to that list of ridiculous star cast 90's movies...also True Romance. It never made sense to me that True Romance didn't get bigger box office support.
