OCS 08APR2024 SNA/SNFO BOARD

Jstingo

SNFO Select
My thought is that since designators accept people with waivers in limited numbers having them go through the normal process allows them to better control the numbers brought in with waivers.
I understand... It's the unfortunate reality for us "older" folks

I just realized- a solar eclipse is happening on the day of the board. If this isn’t a sign from the gods that the board will go well, I don’t know what would be.

If I get selected, I’ll denounce my Christianity and pledge my faith to HeliosAC8885A3-1C09-46A3-85E4-02D6A5FEF020.jpeg

Does anyone know exactly how the aircraft selection works? I know its based off scores, preferences, and the need of the Navy, but would you be forced to take something you didnt want if thats all they had? Id MUCH prefer planes then Helo's, but guess id still do helo if it came down to it
Needs of the Navy come above grades and preference, and you could fly your last choice of aircraft. The Navy has a lot of helicopters and almost always needs people to fly them. I would encourage you to find some experiences from helo pilots if you haven't already. Many pilots have had the same feelings during or prior to flight school, but found themselves loving helicopters. If you are still strongly against helos, the Air Force could be worth considering. You could be sent to helos over there, but the odds are much lower.
A few of the class O's at OCS are aviators; one Romeo pilot, one Sierra pilot, two P8 pilots, and one P8 NFO (my class was her last class, she's getting out soon). They've all had different opinions on the other platforms, but the one constant is that they fell in love with what they got. I had a chance to talk with some PXOs at the Naval Aviation Museum, and the same thing applied to them as well.

btw how long have you been in A-pool? Are the current wait times to class up still 6+ months?

Really depends on when you check in, if you checkin after the academy and rotc it’s going to be a long wait for you. The wait isn’t a bad thing, it gives you time to get your life in order, study the reference material for NIFE, set up your retirement plan, build yourself a budget to save for a house or any other goals you have, learn how to adult, etc…
Also Pensacola isn’t the worst place to be waiting around, there’s good fishing and the opportunity to rent boats for cheap from the mwr and tons todo with the liberty radius you’re given.

ISPP has been around for about 2 years, but the word is still getting out, many who were AD didn't know they could apply that way. Then immediate selection came out just recently.
I didn’t know I could either until a buddy at my command who applied under the ISPP caveat told me about it last year. He was selected and waiting to class up now. I don’t think many people know about it and as mentioned, some just aren’t eligible to use it. I’m happy it exists though!

I’ve been here since November, the SNFOs from my OCS class are classing up now, but my SNAs that graduated before us in August still haven’t classed up

But like @johnpauljones1776 said, focus on the closest alligator to the boat
might be a bit preliminary, but what usually goes on during the waiting period? I are you allowed to travel, work, or whatnot? I’ve been wondering what I should do with my current job if I get a slot- kinda figured I wouldn’t return based on what I’ve read. Just trying to plan that out just in case

I'm just a wannabe, but I thought this thread was at least interesting and probably a typical A-pool experience

Good morning Air Warriors, I was accepted via I-SEL for pilot earlier this month and notified today! My OCS date is May 5th.

Y’all remember, if you really want it, keep on pushing, it took me 2 years to get to this, with many setbacks along the way. Your overall application experience will be unique to you, but the most important thing is that you don’t give up.

I don’t think ISEL is going to affect this board as much as people think. They must be short for SNAs and SNFOs and need people to go asap.

Considering this board is for a different FY I think we will be ok…

congratulations cc!

I like to think so too- there is a need and there are people. But only time will tell, just prepare the best you can. Alea iacta est lmao
