OCS 08APR2024 SNA/SNFO BOARD

I don’t think ISEL is going to affect this board as much as people think. They must be short for SNAs and SNFOs and need people to go asap.

Considering this board is for a different FY I think we will be ok…

congratulations cc!
Yea hopefully you are right , I’m really curious to see how many people will have made it to board this time around. I’m hoping the at board list is released next week so we can see.

might be a bit preliminary, but what usually goes on during the waiting period? I are you allowed to travel, work, or whatnot? I’ve been wondering what I should do with my current job if I get a slot- kinda figured I wouldn’t return based on what I’ve read. Just trying to plan that out just in case
In A-Pool? If you don’t have a stash job, you’ll be standing watch whenever your duty section has duty (if you get scheduled on the watchbill). If you have a stash job (like me), you do your stash job.

You’ll be doing prerequisites and stuff in the meantime. Other than that, you can kind of doing whatever you want as long as you don’t have anything important to do.

You can take leave and work side jobs too. From what I understand, the side jobs cannot be scheduled during the work day. For your case, you would definitely not be doing your full-time job anymore bc the Navy is your full-time job now

I like to think so too- there is a need and there are people. But only time will tell, just prepare the best you can. Alea iacta est lmao

Not short, NRC overselects each year so by the time the first actual board hits for the next FY they have 30% or more of the next FY already selected. Since there are drops/pushes on a regular basis for a variety of things they will need to fill those spots, it is easier to fill that spot with a person who doesn't already have an OCS date then to move a person who does.

May 5th isn't short notice, before the fiasco of Nov 2022 if a person didn't put a date available they would often get a date 4-12 weeks out with the average 6-8 weeks, they are slowly getting back to normal.

The career event I was out a few weeks ago I talked to an OR, I think more like enlisted that helps out the OR, but he said he is hearing a lot of misinformation from other OR's about what is going on with ISEL program but no actual info from NRC. Some are following rumors and some are not, he hasn't heard a person submitting an ISEL and being told "no". What will cause there to be no real affect are those following the rumors.

Great to hear. I’m begging to get out of this cubicle! Fingers crossed

So since they over select and have 30%+ of the next FY already selected before the first board of that year, does that mean the remaining 70% of slots are distributed between all of 4 boards for the new FY year.

They always overselect that is the process as it ensures they are never short, there are always those that will apply that have to wait on graduation, or have something where they can't go for 6 months, the overselect allows them to put people out where they need to be and get people to OCS to make shipping goal.

It's kinda wild that in 1-2 months I get to find out if my life will change drastically. I think the biggest change will be not speaking Japanese on a daily basis, frankly.
In the same boat (minus Japanese). Graduating with my BS in a few months and really hoping I won't have to go with plan B if I get non-select.

Hopefully your only taste of the Corps will be those DI’s in Newport. As for myself
Listen I have nothing against the Marines, my grandfather was a Marine but there are some benefits to being a Navy Pilot as opposed to a Marine Aviator... though MCAS Miramar sounds like a nice duty station.

I think I’m a little biased, my grandfather and great grandfather were both naval aviators. Although I’ve always wondered why OCS uses marine DI? Obviously they’ll be harder on everyone, because well they’re marines. But isn’t the navy sorta taking a jab at their own guys by saying they’d rather having marines PT their office candidates?

I’m sure you will do fine as long as it isn’t a low acceptance rate and no outlier issues pop up, 8 PFAR will do you good.

Marine OCS is a completely different ballgame when it comes to fitness. If you can run a good, even an excellent score on the Navy PRT you'd probably be considered pretty fit but you will most likely not even get selected for Marine OCS if your scores are middling. You need to get close to the max(not even taking into account that each event is harder, pull-ups over pushups, longer plank time, and a 3-mile run). I would presume the Marine DIs actually go easy on Navy officer candidates.
