OCS 08APR2024 SNA/SNFO BOARD

I doubt the I-SEL produced THAT many SNA candidates. Even out of all those that met the criteria for GPA and ASTB scores, they still would have to be able to ship…immediately.
Exactly what I’m thinking, if you look at how many have qualified for immediate select in this forum alone, it hasn’t been alot and while this forum is only a subset of the many people that are applying to this board, you can probably take a rough guess that the applications outside of this forum are of similar scores and not having crazy immediate select numbers as well.

And then has there ever been a time where they didn’t pick up any pilots for the first board of the physical year? I am referring to the guys post above that said they were only taking snfo this time around which my recruiter didn’t say anything about and was pretty confident for this board.

On an unrelated note, is there a schedule of OCS class dates anywhere? Curious what they are for May/June.

14-24 convenes May 5th, expected graduation: August 2nd.
15-24 convenes May 26th, expected graduation: August 23.
16-24 convenes June 10th, grad: September 13th
17-24 convenes June 30th, grad: September 27th.

That's the furthest my list goes, but that info is from December so they may have dates past those by now.

Sweet, thank you! Couldn’t find it online

She didn’t say verbatim that they’re ONLY taking SNFOs. But she did say they are heavily pushing for them to only recruit SNFOs and not SNAs due to the quota already being met. There’s like 8 of us applying through this station and all of us only want SNA so that is likely part of it.

It is normal at this point to have the current FY filled or very close to it, what she is telling you makes me think she is new or isn't a full time Officer Recruiter.

FY 24 should be filled or close to it as the current FY. The April board would be to start to fill FY 25 or is some cases fill in any vacancies they have for the current FY.

It is April not March and it is the 1st not last.

Just pay attention to the FY, that is what is important and yes April would be for FY25 as that is normal operating procedure.

You’re right on your assessment. She just took over the program in December. Fairly new. If this is normal and quotas are usually met this quick then that’s a relief.

If anything, I hope this made more people aware. Was a huge bummer being initially told that I basically have a 0% chance of getting pilot because of the Navy being “full.”

That makes more sense, it was just the wording of the original post because I was just thinking based off that how would the pilot quota already be full if this upcoming board is the first of the FY 25.

Hey all, I figured I would share this so everyone is aware.

I just got off the phone with my recruiter. According to her, pilots are filled up for this fiscal year and it sounds like they’re only taking NFOs for this round. I don’t know if that is a local thing to my station or not but it sounded like it’s a Navy-wide thing. She also informed me that the immediate selection board was only a one off sort of deal. Apparently they only did it in December and January and it doesn’t happen at the same time as the board.

Im skeptical on some of this so any confirmation is welcomed. But I figured I’d share what I heard as it’s pretty important and does change a lot of things for me.
did your recruiter comment on how many more NFOs they were taking? Is it going to be super selective even for NFO?

It isn't a matter of the goal being met quick, it is a matter of that a board held in April could take 2-6 weeks for results, if 6 weeks the odds of a person getting to OCS to be FY24 accession are possible but not probable. Essentially the end of June 1st week of July is when the last people go to OCS for FY24 depending on where OCS class schedule falls this year.

She didn’t say specifically how many or if they were going to be super selective. But she did say they really need them.
So my recruiter just texted me this “This board they will be focused on selecting NFOs for FY24 and SNA for FY25. They are still down a lot of NFOs so they will probably be selecting almost everyone that apply for NFO”. Which is in line with what yours told you, just that SNA applicants would be for FY 2025 since the 2024 SNA quota is pretty much done, which was also stated earlier by exnavyoffrec.

This might be the best thing I've heard yet on this entire commissioning journey.

Also, I heard back through my recruiter about my medical DQ. Med corps back in early December sent me the formal written letter of DQ due to PVCs and an email to my recruiter of the list of things I had to have done for waiver consideration. All of the things they wanted from me were put into motion and scheduled. Come early January, my recruiter sends the paperwork in whatever medical portal the Navy uses (I can't remember at this point. Galaxy, universe, or something? It sounded Star-Trek'y). Then we wait... and wait.. and wait..
N3M sends back a letter dated Feb. 11, saying I'm disqualified for PVCs and to assist with waiver consideration....

I need to do literally exactly what they asked me to do back in December. My recruiter and I are both scratching our heads at this one. Did Big Medical just completely miss all of the supporting documents that we sent to them? Did the doctor not even bother to look at my paperwork?

Really getting frustrated at this whole ordeal. Would really appreciate some pointers on what to do next.

BLUF: Where there’s a will, there’s a waiver.

Personally, I would see as many doctors/specialists as you can to evaluate you and say that you’re good to go. Additionally, be patient with the process and do everything in your power to prove that you’re fine medically.

While I was at OCS, I needed surgery for a simultaneous septic arthritis infection and gout flare(??) in my ankle. My whole career was in jeopardy after that surgery, not necessarily bc of the surgery itself, but bc I was told multiple times that any history of gout in an aviation applicant was essentially a no-go. Fast forward a few months later, my ankle is better than ever and I’m in Pensacola waiting to class up.

Moral of the story: your biggest advocate is yourself. If you even think you can get your waiver, you should fight for it.

There is a difference, you were in OCS and the USN has invest some money in you, not a lot but some. Pringles is not yet in OCS so the USN has invested no money just a little bit of time. It is possible that a person in your circumstance that had not been sent to OCS could be denied outright and not have a chance to do what you are doing.

I have seen something similar, it could be some of the documents were missed, or it could be that they are looking for specific wording or phrasing from the Doctor. The best thing is for your recruiter to get clarification as to what they exactly want from the doc, they may even let him know what he needs to write.
