Oct 2010 board

FS SNA
Does anyone know when the list comes out showing who will be in for the October boards? It's hard to believe that we're about a month away from hearing something.

So what date do we think these boards are gonna be held? I'm foreseeing the 20th.. and we will all know our future around the 24th.. If I hit these numbers I'm playing the lotto!

According to the board schedule for the year the SWO/SNA/NFO board is suppose to meet on the 17th, and supply on the 25th.

Damn, a 73? I didn't realize the scale went that high. I thought Alex had it maxed with a 69. Does that take into account how long the test took you? As in if you completed the test with a 100% score in 40 minutes, you get a 73, but if you took 55 minutes for that 100%, you get the 69 (purely hypothetical numbers). Or is it solely based on right/wrong answers? Is a perfect score 80 then? Insane...

Good luck on this board all.

The scale is from 20-80. Most people get 50 or near 50, and 20s are as rare as 80s. It is approximately the bell shaped curve, mean of 50, standard deviations of 10. For those who are interested, you can see the approximate percentile of your score. Take your OAR, subtract 50, and divide that by 10. Go to

http://www.fourmilab.ch/rpkp/experiments/analysis/zCalc.html

and scroll down to "Calculate probability Q from z". Type in the number there to see your probability. 80s do happen, very rarely (0.1349% of the time, or 1 in 741 times.) The same with 20s. Approximately 1 in 741 people are that mentally lacking. I heard that the Navy readjusts the scale from time to time, I think that is to adjust the scale so most people get 50s or around there, and about 6.68% get 65+, etc, to stay within the bell shaped curve of 20-80

And to answer your question about time you take, I highly doubt that finishing faster gives you a higher score. I went down to 0 for almost every section, double checking my work. I finished well within time, but the computer saw that I took all the time and still gave me a 73 so I don't think it's time dependent.

Second on the fact that timing highly unlikely to factor into the score at all, considering that there are still paper versions of the ASTB being administered. As it would be difficult/inefficient on a mass scale to control for the timing of each section to an exact second, it just would not make much sense.

Thanks for the info Stalin. I don't know how but I somehow was under the impression that ATSB figures were secret info. Interesting too, being able to figure out the hard numbers. I thought a lot more people would be submitting to these boards, but then I saw that for three months, there were 150 or so pilot applicants. Not exactly a massive amount of people!

JollyGood, I didn't know they had paper tests still. I suppose if I stopped and thought about it, I would have been able to rule that out of the realm of possibilities, the timed scoring deal. I suppose that just means I missed more questions than I thought I did to score a 63. Disappointing.

On a side note, this just popped into my head: "Buzz's girlfriend. Woof!" Hope that girl never saw that movie. Would have devastated her...

Well, the ASTB scoring is a secret. For example, no one knows what an OAR score of "50" entails. I don't know what my score is, only the Navy knows that 60% in math, 70% in reading, etc = XXX OAR score. But more or less, the OAR score is scaled in a bell shaped curve, so if you get 50 you have approximately half above you and half below you. Does that make sense?

All this assumes that the Navy adheres to the 20-80 bell shaped curve. I saw 2004ish results, and it was generally a bell shaped curve, so I think my assessment is fairly accurate. If people are scoring higher and getting smarter, then the Navy will adjust the OAR scale so "50" will be harder to achieve. (Once again, I'm not 100% sure about all this, it just makes sense statistically.)

Yeah, I was surprised myself when I took the paper test after reading about nothing but people taking the test on computer and getting their scores immediately following.

I thought the paper test really helped me out though considering I was used to them after the extensive use throughout elementary, middle, and high school. Yet, the maddening thing was waiting for the results to come back, it took around 3-4 weeks.

And yeah, it serves Buzz right for being a such a prick to his younger brother. Eating all the cheese pizza, who does that?

Anyone receive final word that they are without a doubt going to be on this board yet?

Nothing without a doubt as of yet, last I have heard from my recruiter is that my application has been in Millington since September 14th and has been "accepted for review and slate for the board."

Now, just have to keep the fingers crossed that I will be on the "at-board" list when those are posted.

Where exactly are the "at-board" lists posted? I cant seem to find a history of them posted anywhere... Thanks.

So looking at the schedule there isn't another board after Novembers for SNA/NFO until April.. My OR won't let me put in for November as well for a fail safe. I thought some of you were able to do this right? Put into the next board as well? When I asked him he
said no we will just fill out a form and put it in for the next board which will only be another month.. I hate how they never know whats going on. Is there, or is there not a way to put in for November's board without being in review of October's yet? Because with that big of a gap I'm ready to just ask my processor.
