For civilians who found out your pro rec status recently: did your OR call or email you? Just curious about the standard practice.

CS3 - US Navy ( and OCS Applicant)
I applied for Intel and IW unfortunately did not get selected. I would like to ask some few questions...improving my application for 02DEC2013 IDC board.

1. In the OCS application (1420.1B), there is no place to put working experience...especially for my case where I've been in the Navy for short time, but I have worked many years in civilian world in different capacities. My concern, is it allowed to attach resume/CV or any extra papers/pages indicating such working experience and community work involved? In my previous application, I tried to explain such experience in my essay, but because words are supposed not to exceed 250 makes difficult to include all.

2. How many pages are not too much to be included in support of your application? Can you have more than 100 pages application package including application form, interviews, recommendations, transcripts, awards, community work certificates, proof of publication, if any etc?

Thanks

Dude, you're apparently out of the loop. Stop digging this hole, you're wrong.

I am just giving links and data that is current to NRC, this is the SAME info that the processors brief the applicants before they swear in, this is the same info that all OR's have to give applicants applying.

When a person is going to swear in the NRC processor goes and opens the service agreement on the link I sent, they fill out the blocks for the applicant and witnessing officer, then they print it, then they go through each part and explain to them what it all means and according to what I asked today if an applicant as what that part means about SWO qualification they are told "they go to a ship, they qualify SWO then they transfer to their IW or IP job".

It appears there is a BIG disconnect between the IDC community and NRC, here are the differences from what has been said here: IDC says 2 sea tours but NRC documentation (SA) says qualify pin then go to IW or IP job, PA says 3 years after designator change but SA says 2 years and the PA references the MILPERSMAN but it hasn't been updated to correct designators either.

Imagine being an applicant being briefed by an OR or processor on the SA, going to OCS, then finding out what you have been told is in conflict with what is happening to you.

I know you said what I put is bad gouge, and it may be if the IDC isn't updating NRC, but it is the gouge being given to applicants by the NRD's so it isn't bad gouge to them, it is correct from what they know.

Use your motivational statement to comment about your civilian experience. Also feel free to have additional DD370's. The other stuff won't matter as much because you are applying to a board full of career Navy folks. They might not understand or care about getting published. Strong DD370's, Officer interviews and a strong motivational statement.

You also use the additional applicant comments in the application to mention work experience.

My OR said my motivational statement could be as long as I wanted, just as long as it fits within the given space; I think the 250 word limit is a thing of the past. That's where I went in to my experiences (relevant jobs, community service, etc) and how they prepared me to be a Naval Officer. I doubt a resume would help as much as a really strong motivational statement emphasizing not just what you've done, but how you have demonstrated leadership, commitment to public service, etc, throughout your experiences and how they have otherwise prepared you to do the job you're applying for.

Sorry to hear you weren't selected; good luck for the next time around.

He is a prior so we use different applicantion forms, our personal statement is limited to 200-250 words.

"For all applicants, including Nurse Corps, use the space provided to describe the following in detail (Limit your statement for each section below
to between 200 and 250 words).:"

Ah ok, my mistake. 250 seems really short, any idea why they do that?.

No idea why, they give very specific guidance on what to say. I had no issue getting what I wanted to say in there. I think it eliminates fluff and gets straight to the point.

Our package also has a lot of information already included in our evaluations and such that we don't personally need to speak to those items and experiences.

"- Reason applying for a commission
- Personal and professional goals
- Strengths/personal characteristics you possess which will contribute to success in the program(s) to which you are applying.
Address any other relevant information or substantial accomplishments not already covered."

Well good news/bad news on my front.

I was picked up for IWO, but that is strange as I only applied for Intel. I am super confused, and am waiting for my OR to get back in touch with me to clarify. I am happy I was selected, but I have zero background in IW.

Congrats! I don't think that's totally unexpected, I remember seeing one or two from the big February IDC board picked up for designators they didn't list, in fact for IW, IIRC. Since it's all one board, I guess they'll put people wherever they see a potential fit and/or have the available quota.
