That 4 X 200 was exactly how I like my races: USA right out front, with a commanding lead no one can touch.

Say what you will about liking the close races, I'm in it for the all out slaughter-ous international domination. Isn't that the true Olympic spirit anyway? :icon_tong

Spot-on. I feel much better when we're 8 seconds better than the world-record line.

Can't stand the guy. Far from modest with the "I'm on a quest for 8 golds." Reminds me of Marion Jones who hyped herself up on her failed quest get 5 track & field golds in '00. Now she's in prison!

You are always able to look at the bright side of life. (Psst ... you're in the Navy now, you don't always have to be angry...)

OK the man broke the world record for the 200 Fly, without being able to see. Wicked.

What is NBC's deal? I hear about Phelps' medals on ESPN before I see it "LIVE" on NBC. And its not really like they can't play it live when it happens. I wish ABC had the Olympics, we'd have every event on ABC and all their baby ESPNs. Down with the peacock!

Phelps is a machine. My brother and I got to watch the 4x100m relay w/o knowing who actually won beforehand, and that was probably one of (if not the) most exciting sporting events I've ever seen. The victory got me so pumped I wanted to kick something, thankgod it wasn't Kerpal's dog.

Does anybody else think that blonde reporter for swimming asks the most retarded questions ever?

"Michael, you just won another gold...how do you feel?"

*facepalm*

I wonder how long it will take to put all the Michael Phelps video from this Olympics to the Team America soundtrack.

Lezmak deserves a lot of credit for that win too, definitely demonstrating the team aspect AND he's an "old guy". Plus I love the black swimmer on the team too, breaking stereotypes. That's the strength of Team USA. Our diversity. We got all sorts on our side.

Gotta give it up the men's gymnastics team. A Russian, a Chinese (captain), and an Indian. They held it together and beat out a bronze when they should have lost. Way to go!

Don't worry, there is no way China will beat us in medals or golds. It's a numbers game. We have way more events than them.

Love it. Go USA!!

Patriotism alive and well

Its a shame you think like that. For me personally it is very nice to see Americans comming together in bars, restaurants, and homes to cheer and route for something "American." Its a very welcome change from the constant bashing of America and all it stands for. There is nothing wrong with striving for nothing short of the best (8 golds). Finally, did you see the support and sportsman ship he was showing for his teamates in the relay races. Don't be so quick to judge Im sure you have your moments as well.

I was in a fairly high-class restaurant/bar on Sunday, I think during the relay where we rubbed the frog's noses in their own smug shit, when a bunch of people started chanting, "USA! USA!" As for my own table, we sang "America, fvck yeah!" of World Police fame.

It was good to hear, especially when the college environment occasionally becomes so depressingly anti-patriotic.

I concur as well with the USA unity. It's a shame to see the women's gymnastic team lose to the Chinese who were definitely NOT of age. Don't worry about the medal race, we've got track and field yet.

You're not a geography major are you?

Phelps just grabbed the medal record.

I grew up swimming competitively, and this guy is just phenomenal. He made that 200 fly look like cake.

I too grew swimming on a year-round team. That dude is a machine. 200m fly is no cake of a race, that shit is physically draining. He is crazy.

The guy is absolutely incredible. It's pretty cool how happy and excited he gets when he wins, almost as if it's a surprise to him. He definitely doesn't have the attitude of someone who is untouchable, which I'm pretty sure he could get away with.

On a related note, it was pretty cool to see the President of the United States jump up waving a flag and cheering for Phelps and Team USA... that's got to be a top moment in any athlete's life, regardless of his or her personal politics.

LOL! Good one, I can't believe he posted that. China is exactly 12 hours ahead of EST. It actually works out quite nice. Watch it live at night.

Unless you live on the West Coast and get the shaft. So yes, I can read about it on ESPN/Airwarriors before I can watch it, unless I stream it from the NBC website.
