Making Recruiting Great Again
Then is my recruiter ignorant or just giving me bad gouge? Because she has said nothing about a ground breaking change in the boards and when I asked told me she wasn’t aware of such a thing.

If you an OR and had all your applicants selected, you wouldn’t have known or noticed the changes. Now if you had folks with high ASTB scores, no waivers but still got a non select then that’s when questions get asked.

I see. I'll send her an email asking if she had any non-selects. I heard on another forum that the boards have gotten more selective and that it was mostly those with average scores and/or legal waivers who got denied, so I figure I'll ask her about that, too.

Update for anyone interested: my recruiter didn't know because there were no applicants from her office at the board. Go figure! Everyone, including her, has said my legal waiver won't hurt my selection chances, so I really should just stop worrying since my offense didn't involve drugs or alcohol.

I have seen many denied who had legal waivers for other than alcohol or drugs, those were non-aviation, before aviation really didn't have an issue with legal waivers, but like @RUFiO181 has said this is new territory, so that legal waiver may or may not be an issue now.

So long as the board reads the letter I wrote explaining my offense, which was reckless driving by speed, I think they'll be okay with it. I admitted I screwed up, apologized, and explained that I learned my lesson. The rest of my packet is good and my record is clean otherwise, so that's what I hope at least.

yeah that isn't too bad, but the big question is in your statement did you put that you "felt the need, the need for speed" lol

I just said that I was stressed because I spent the day in the hospital with my dad, and was fatigued from already having driven for 7 hours (I got pulled over at 10 PM) which caused me to have “get-there-itis” and make a bad decision about my speed. That came with the caveat that “my physical condition excuses nothing” or something like that.

I should add that I didn’t put that in my motivational statement, but in another form that I needed to submit to get my waiver approved. Should I explain my offense in my motivational statement, too?

He should be fine. VA has a stupid law where if you’re clocked going 20+ over the limit you are charged with reckless driving.

Now if he had some alcohol and drugs into play... that’s a whole other story.

That, and the punishments for reckless driving are super severe: up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine. I just had a fine and license suspension when I could have been very easily jailed, so I got off easy. I just hope that the board read that Jalopnik article written by the guy who spent three days in county jail for speeding.

What sucks is that the law will never change because it’s too lucrative to both the state and the traffic lawyers you find under every rock in VA.

My OAR and AQR scores are low, but I’m really hoping my other 2 scores as well as my background and experience can help that out, which according to my OR, it will help out.
Just keep your head up man. From what I’ve read, it’s actual Aviators conducting these boards and letters of Rec and motivation statements are just as important. I got picked up for SNA with 48 5/6/6 with a 2.6 GPA, 6 tattoo waivers and a legal waiver. But the rest of my package paints a totally different story. Take your scores and what you got and move forward with them. If you make it, great, if you don’t....retest, spit shine the package and go again. Good luck.

Hey all, finally checking in after waiting on a pending medical waiver to go through. This will be my first board. Stats below.

SNA
27 on age waiver with 7 years active duty
3.6 gpa BS Business
57 6/7/7
3 Pilot interviews: O-4, O-4, O-5 XO
1 O-5 LOR, previous detatchment OIC
