Yeah, but I'm afraid they might have me loading the truck instead of driving it around town. By the way, what are my chances of getting promoted from a mail handler to one of their 747 Pilots????

The next person that makes a "what are my chances" joke is going to have me show up at their doorstep and BUTTSTROKE THEM WITH A RIFLE.

I don't get why people are like "I won't be a back seater, F*&% that S*&t!". You make it sound like NFOs are second class citizens. Who is the one who tells the pilot what to do???? The NFO! It's freakin awesome. And it's not like you won't ever lay your hands on the controls ever. I once too envisioned myself as a pilot, but I have height issues and went NFO instead... I was upset for like a day... nothing in the navy is ever guaranteed, but the one thing you can do it go out there and be the best damn NFO you can be. Everything happens for a reason, and there is a silver lining somewhere out there for you, you just gotta let yourself find it.

People don't want to be a back seater because they want to be a pilot. You know, the one who actually fly's the aircraft. No NFO tells me what to do in the aircraft and never will. Nothing wrong with wanting one over the other.

Unless you're in a S-3, which is unlikely now, this is strickly training command. Don't get too excited about that. You aren't flying sh!t in a Super Bug or Prowler.

some of us do manage to get along in single-seat aircraft or miraculously not crash...

I am the only one who sees the irony that this comment came from a Harrier selectee? ;)

Last S-3 guy was winged in my class. Only CTW-6 fellas who will by flying in the fleet will be Chair Force F-15E types...

Then again, you can still blow sh!t up :D

...because there are no NFOs in the C-2 community, ergo no NFOs in positions of responsibilty in the C-2 community.

In the F-18, for example, or any multi seat aircraft with NFOs and pilots, there often are times when the NFO is the Mission Commander and senior to the pilot. The pilot does what he needs to wrt safety of flight issues. Exception would be where an NFO mission commander could order a flight into a dangerous environment IOT to complete the mission (i.e., taking out a SAM site). Pilot would have to comply.

So there are subtle differences in where the responsibility lies wrt the jobs being so different.

It depends on community, you'd never hear a E-2 pilot claim he could do without his NFOs, as you'll never hear a C-2 pilot claim to need one.

Apples and oranges.

I loved the COD guys when I was CVN Air Ops.

F-15E? Not in my fleet! Those a-holes (and their stupid crud game) can stay in their AEF, thank you very much. ;)

I can sympathize with Venom and other pilots who did not make the cut in API. I would not want to be an NFO, just like I wouldn't want to be a SWO or a Sub dude. Not because I feel that those communities are inferior in any way, but because I have always wanted to be a pilot. Everyone in here is preaching that you are an officer first and your specific job comes second. Sorry guys, but I joined the Navy to be a pilot! Being an officer and having leadership responsibilites is a great addition to my job satisfaction, but everyone has their own priorities. Going to college and getting a degree was only a hurdle in the path of getting wings for me. I probably wouldn't have gone to college if it wasnt required. Although I look back and am greatful that I had the opportunity to recieve a higher education, dont get me wrong.

Venom, I would not settle for being a NFO if you are going to be miserable and not enjoy your job. For some reason NFOs get all butt hurt when pilots talk about not wanting their job, so disregard all the BS they have been dishing out. If it comes down to it, get out of the Navy.
