Have a copy of the last NATOPS manual for both the Navy H-46D and CH-46E
I think it says something like...if a gauge says something weird-land as soon as practical.

Then, if it gets weirder, or you start hearing funny noises-land as soon as possible/maybe immediately depending on stuff.

If your sync shaft fails, you're fucked.

"You're fucked" Pretty sure the 53 NATOPS says that if something stops leaking

Interestingly, that only happened a couple times during the VN era, and once that I am aware of in the civilian world.
Due to fatigue cracks in one of the shaft sections. Same with the spraq clutch, only a couple total that I can find any documentation on. Transmissions were the weak link, especially '67-'68.
I saw the XV-15 demonstrated at MCAS Tustin i the '80s.
At that time, I asked the Sr. development engineer, who was at the field to answer our questions, 'What happens if a spraq clutch fails?' to which he answered, "It can never happen." Nothing like a bold face lie to directly to an aviator.
