Random Griz Aviation Musings

From the ramp at 1A9 two nights ago. We completed an intense week of Flight training and an event the Air Force calls a "Flight Clinic". Bringing together our active duty and reservist Air Force pilots along with my fellow pilot rated civilians. We operated like any normal front line unit with a morning, afternoon, and evening go. Everyone took turns being the IP or the student. Although we had a couple of young O-5s that are beginning their transition training to cap aircraft coming from cC17 and C12 in this case. Neither had touched a general aviation piston high performance aircraft before. Lots of fun and lots of great camaraderie. A good way to enjoy a week of per diem. We had an assistant Secretary of the Air Force come and visit as well as a active duty three-star.

Anyone have any thoughts on getting a high performance endorsement? I could see it potentially being useful if someone at the airport needed an IPC or BFR in something like a Bonanza, but admittedly it would also be a little bit about vanity. It bugs me (a little bit, but not a lot) that I foolishly never got signed off when I had the opportunity.

If I were to make the jump over to flying fixed-wing professionally, I'm sure the endorsement would just be wrapped up in the transition training. I don't know if the extra gold star with a smiley face in the logbook is worth the time and money...or if the school I would probably use still has their 182.

Not needed. Your PIC solo experience in the T-34C suffices along with your mil comp ratings award - as your complex and high performance endorsement. This was validated by a DPE when I did my Airplane Category Flight Instructor add-on.

Same for Spin Training.

That said, to your point when you do your Commercial Multi Engine add-on, the instructor will cover their 6 with both endorsements.
