SECNAV to Implement Sweeping Changes

Huh, who woulda' thunk it?

To have the top two Intel officers not have clearances is akin to having a squadron and CO and XO not having flight quals, sure they can manage the squadron's ground stuff but how the hell are they suppose to lead a unit in their main mission. I understand they don't want to be unfair to the folks being investigated but what about the service and it's needs? And the double standard that exists for a VADM and RADM versus pretty much anyone else?

As for the statements criticizing the Marine's test, I leave it to Senator McCain to ask the tough questions.

This whole thing about clearances and how long it's taking to investigate the top Intel-Os is incomprehensible to me. Skippers and XOs get fired for a lot less.

I'm personally enjoying all the "sweeping changes" as I complete my 3rd NKO training this CY.

The Active Shooter training was particularly entertaining. I'm pretty sure the entire course was from a civilian source and then "The Navy" went in and changed about 3 different words in the lesson slides where it might have sounded too corporate. Also, anyone else notice the horribly worded questions?

I know I feel significantly more prepared after that training. Now I know that after a horrific shoot out at my place of work, I'll have to stay late to make sure I can give my statement to security. Mission Accomplished.

And I am sure it cost $300K

So, I just filled out a travel request to go to USNA for some Blue and Gold Officer training. It was a fillable pdf. The only block that was not fillable by text and was instead a drop down, was gender. My options were male, female, and N/A. Really?

I was wondering if this whole homogenizing the uniforms isn't just to address the question of what happens when someone who is transgendered goes to the Academy. Insert South Park reference here. Also here.

As one gal in my unit asked, "Why the hell do I have to dress like a man in order to be 'equal' to one?".

Yup. I mean if we all have to look the same, we might as well start saying that we all have to be one race in order to join the Navy. Otherwise there are going to be people looking different in formation . I also don't get why he doesn't understand that men and women dress similarly in working situations but not in formal situation in the civilian world, and there's nothing wrong with that in either the civilian world or the military! If I were to go and work out in my yard or do heavy work on my house, odds are I'd be wearing boots, jeans, and a t-shirt. That's probably what a man is going to wear as well. But when we finish that up and go to a nice dinner, a man's going to wear a suit and I'm going to wear a dress.

You know, I stopped coming here so much because now that I'm out, it's nice not to have to deal with this crap. But then I come here and read the insanity about uniforms and about hanging the Corps out to dry with the integration thing, and opening everything up, and boy do I get just as worked up. Now I'm angry and I want to punch something. How the f*ck does this clown still have a job?

There will be some that will dismiss Rear Admiral Losey's concerns, making an ad hominem attack based on his recently concluded investigation....That's unfortunate. The cynic in me suggests that the expedited timeline coincides with how much longer a certain senior civilian service leader has in office.

Sigh, how dare you even think such a thing?!

My concern is if this 'opportunity' becomes a mandate, I have seen it happen before and can see it happening again.

I've got to confess that I'm really torn about SecNav. He is willing to implement change, I will say that. He's done God's work as far as liberalizing career paths and allowing more innovation. At the same time, he's all-in for a lot of PC (I hate that phrase--usually it just means "shit I don't like") BS. At least he's willing to do something, which is more than most of his predecessors.
